Célébration de la 126ème anniversaire du jour de la Victoire d'Adwa

L'Ambassade d'Éthiopie à Paris a organisé un événement célébrant la 126ème Victoire d'Adwa en compagnie du Sous-Directeur général de l'#UNESCO en charge de la Priorité Afrique et des Relations extérieures, l'Ambassadeur du Sénégal et Président du Groupe Afrique à l'#UNESCO, des Ambassadeurs africains à Paris, des universitaires africains et des membres de la diaspora éthiopienne et africaine.

Dans diverses interventions, des ambassadeurs, des universitaires et des membres de la diaspora ont souligné que la Victoire à Adwa nous enseigne que l'UNITÉ et une vision partagée sont les ingrédients essentiels pour surmonter les défis de taille auxquels le continent africain est confronté.

C'est l'unité de tous les Éthiopiens sous le commandement de l'Empereur Menelik II qui a permis la victoire des Éthiopiens à Adwa contre une armée coloniale européenne moderne. Ainsi, cette victoire des éthiopiens unis assura l'indépendance du pays et son égalité souveraine, Adwa devenant le catalyseur du panafricanisme et de la lutte contre le colonialisme.

C'est la même unité entre les nations africaines qui, sous la devise « Nous ne sommes pas libres tant que nous ne sommes pas tous libres », a permis la libération de tout le continent avec une lutte acharnée menée collectivement à travers l'Organisation de l'Unité africaine. Ainsi, cette lutte africaine unie a été couronnée de succès en seulement trois décennies avec le démantèlement du régime d'apartheid en Afrique du Sud en 1994.

Dans l'environnement mondial actuel de plus en plus polarisé, c'est la même unité africaine qui assurera la paix sur le continent et le succès dans la lutte contre la pauvreté, avec une Afrique uniquement alignée sur les intérêts de l'Afrique. La création de la Zone de Libre-échange continentale africaine en 2020 et sa mise en œuvre accélérée seront essentielles dans l'intégration économique du continent et la transformation des économies africaines afin que l'Afrique puisse prendre la place qui lui revient dans la communauté des nations au 21ème siècle.

L’UNION fait la force!

The Ethiopian Embassy in Paris hosted an event celebrating the 126th Victory of Adwa together with Assitant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations of # UNESCO, the Ambassador of Senegal and President of the Africa Group at #UNESCO, African Ambassadors in Paris, African scholars, and members of the Ethiopian and African Diaspora.

In various interventions, Ambassadors, scholars and members of the Diaspora stressed that the Victory at Adwa teaches us unity and shared vision are the critical ingredients for overcoming the daunting challenges facing the continent.

It is the unity of all Ethiopians under the command of Emperor Menelik II that enabled the victory of Ethiopians at Adwa against a modern European colonial army. Thus, this united Ethiopian victory ensured the independence of the country and its sovereign equality, with Adwa becoming the catalyst for Pan-Africanism and the struggle against colonialism.

It is the same unity among African nations which under the motto « We are not free unless all of us are free » that enabled the liberation of the whole continent with a bitter struggle waged collectively thru the Organisation of African Unity. Thus, this united African struggle was crowned with success in just three decades with the dismantling of the apartheid regime in South Africa in 1994.

In the current more and more polarised global environment, it is the same African unity that will ensure peace in the continent and success in the battle against poverty, with an Africa that is only aligned with the interests of Africa. The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area in 2020 and its accelerated implementation will be critical in the economic integration of the continent and the transformation of African economies so that Africa can take its rightful place in the community of nations in the 21st century.

UNITED, we stand!

በፓሪስ የኢትዮጵያ ኤምባሲ የዩኔስኮ ረዳት ዋና ዳይሬክተር፣ የሴኔጋል አምባሳደር እና የአፍሪካ ቡድን ሊቀመንበር፣ በፓሪስ የአፍሪካ አምባሳደሮች እንዲሁም ምሁራን እና የኢትዮጵያ እና የአፍሪካ ማህበረሰብ አባላት በተገኙበት 126ኛውን የአድዋ ድል በዓል በድምቀት አከበረ።

አምባሳደሮች፣ ምሁራን እና የዲያስፖራ አባላት ባደረጉት ንግግር የአድዋ ድል አንድነት እና የጋራ ራዕይ በአህጉሪቱ የተጋረጡትን ፈተናዎች በስኬት ለመወጣት ወሳኝ መሆናቸውን ገልፀዋል።

ኢትዮጵያውያን በዘመናዊው የአውሮፓ ቅኝ ገዥ ጦር ላይ በዓድዋ ድል እንዲቀዳጁ ያስቻለው በዳግማዊ አፄ ምኒልክ መሪነት ሁሉም ኢትዮጵያውያን በአንድነት ያደረጉት ተጋድሎ ነው። ይህ ድል የሀገሪቱን ነፃነትና ሉዓላዊ እኩልነት ያረጋገጠ ሲሆን፣ አድዋ የፓን-አፍሪካኒዝም እና የፀረ-ቅኝ አገዛዝ ትግል መነሻ ሆናለች።

በአፍሪካ አንድነት ድርጅት አማካይነት በተደረገው መራራ ትግል መላው አህጉሪቷን ነፃ ማውጣት የተቻለው “ሁላችንም ነፃ ካልሆንን ማናችንም ነፃ አይደለንም” በሚል መሪ-ቃል በአፍሪካ ሀገራት መካከል የነበረው ተመሳሳይ አንድነት ነው። ይህ በአንድነት የተደረገው አፍሪካዊ ትግል እ.ኤ.አ. በ1994 ዓ.ም. በደቡብ አፍሪካ የነበረውን የአፓርታይድ ስርዓት በማፍረስ በሶስት አስርት አመታት ውስጥ የስኬት ዘውድ ተቀዳጀ።

አሁን ባለውና ውጥረት በተሞላበት ዓለም አቀፋዊ ሁኔታ፣ የአህጉሪቱን ሰላምና ልማት ማረጋገጥ የሚቻለው በአንድነት የአፍሪካን ጥቅም ብቻ መሠረት ያደረገ አካሄድ በመከተል ነው። እ.ኤ.አ. በ2020 ዓ.ም. የአፍሪካ አህጉራዊ ነፃ የንግድ ቀጣና መመስረት እና በፍጥነት መተግበር ለአህጉሪቱ ኢኮኖሚያዊ ውህደት፣ ለአፍሪካ ኢኮኖሚ ሥር-ነቀል ለውጥ እና አህጉሪቷ በ21ኛው ክፍለ-ዘመን ተገቢውን ቦታ እንድትይዝ በማድረግ ረገድ ወሳኝ ነው።

አንድነታችን ጥንካሬያችን ነው!

Départ de S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Bassirou Sene

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a reçu S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Bassirou Sene du Sénégal, grand diplomate, un grand pan-africain et un grand ami de l’Ethiopie. Avant son poste en France, il a servi son pays avec succès en tant qu’Ambassadeur en Éthiopie et auprès de l’Union africaine.

S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Bassirou Sene vient de finir son mandat en France et est appelé à un autre poste au service de son pays. Nous lui souhaitons un grand succès dans ses nouvelles responsabilités.

L’Ethiopie et le Sénégal, deux piliers de l’unité continentale, doivent renforcer leur coopération pour une mise en œuvre effective du Traité de Zone de Libre-Échange Continental et une accélération de l’intégration africaine.

H.E. Ambassador Bassirou Sene is leaving

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met H.E. Ambassador Bassirou Sene of Senegal, a great diplomat, a great Pan-Africanist & a great friend of Ethiopia. Prior to his assignment in France, he served his country with distinction as Ambassador of Senegal to Ethiopia and the African Union.

H.E. Ambassador Bassirou Sene has finished his tour of duty in France and will be taking up a new assignment. I wish him all the best in his new assignment.

Ethiopia and Senegal, two pillars of continental unity, must enhance their cooperation for the effective implementation of the Continental Free Trade Area Treaty and for the acceleration of Africa’s integration.

Record mondial battu !

Record battu : les Ethiopiens viennent de battre le record mondial en plantant 220 millions d'arbres en une seule journée. L'objectif initial de 200 millions d'arbres a donc été dépassé. Dans le cadre de cette campagne nationale d’un jour, l'Ambassade d'Ethiopie à Paris a planté 20 arbres dans son jardin. 

Félicitations à tous les Ethiopiens qui se sont massivement mobilisés ensemble ! #GreenLegacy

Breaking a world record!

Broken record: the Ethiopians have broken the world record with the plantation of 220 million trees in one single day. The initial target of 200 million trees was therefore exceeded. As part of our contribution to the national campaign,the Ethiopia Embassy in Paris has planted 20 trees in the Embassy compound.

Congratulations to all the Ethiopians who mobilized massively together ! #GreenLegacy

Visite à Toulouse

À Toulouse, plus grande ville universitaire française et siège du géant Airbus, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a eu une réunion prometteuse avec le Professeur Philippe Raimbault, Président de l’Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées. Entre autres activités, il coordonne la coopération des universités et grandes écoles basées à Toulouse.

Ensemble, ils ont parlé de la coopération entre des universités éthiopiennes et toulousaines dans les domaines scientifiques, de la création d’un programme de doctorat en co-tutelle et d'un partenariat entre l’Ecole Nationale d’Aviation Civile et l’Académie d’Ethiopian Airlines.

L'Ethiopie peut beaucoup bénéficier dans le domaine de l’éducation en collaborant avec des universités et écoles toulousaines.

Visit in Toulouse

In Toulouse, France’s biggest university town and home of Airbus, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl had a productive meeting with Professor Philippe Raimbault, President of Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées Federal University. Cooperation between Toulouse based universities and higher learning schools is one of the many activities of his office.

Together, they talked about cooperation between Ethiopian and Toulouse based universities in the various science fields, the establishment of co-organized Ph.D. programs, and possible partnership between the Ethiopian Airlines Academy and the French National Civil Aviation School. Ethiopia can gain a lot from a cooperation with Toulouse based universities and higher learning institutions.

ከፕሬዚዳንቱ ጋር በቱሉዝ የሚገኙና በአገራችን ዩኒቨርስቲዎች መካከል በሳየንስ ዘርፍ ትብብር ስከመጀመር፣ የጋራ የዶክትሬት ፕሮግራም ስለመመሥረት እና በኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድ አቪዬሽን አካዳሚና በፈረንሣይ የሲቪል አቪዬሽን ትምህርት ቤት መካከል የአጋርነት ትብብር ስለመመሥረት የመጀመሪያ ውይይት አድርገናል።

አገራችን በትምህርት ዘርፍ ከቱሉዝ ዩኒቨርስቲዎችና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት ተጠቃሚ መሆን ትችላለች።

2 millions d'arbres en 1 journée

L’Ethiopie montre l’exemple avec une campagne nationale de reforestation. Elle va ainsi relever le défi du record actuellement détenu par l'Inde : planter 2 millions d'arbres en une seule journée. La date du 29 juillet 2019 a été retenue. d’un jour le lundi 29 juillet. Notre Ambassade à Paris fera partie de cette campagne nationale en plantant des arbres dans son jardin.

Planter des arbres fait partie des solutions indispensables contre l’urgence climatique qui menace de rendre notre monde invivable pour nos enfants. Faisons partie de cet effort pour que notre monde redevienne vert !

2 million trees in one day

Ethiopia is setting the example with a reforrestation campaign. Our country will mobilize to plant 200 million trees in a single day on Monday 29 July! The Embassy in Paris will be part of national effort by planting trees in premises on this same day.

Planting trees is vital part of solution to address climate emergency that is threatening to make our world unlivable for our children. Be part of the effort to make our world green again!

አገራችን በአንድ ቀን፣ ሐምሌ 22 ቀን፣ 200 ሚሊዮን ዛፍ በመትከል ለዓለም ምሳሌ ሆናለች። ኤምባሲያችንም የዚህ አገር አቀፍ ጥረት አካል በመሆን በጊቢው ውስጥ የዛፍ ተከላ ሥነ-ሥረዓት ያዘጋጃል።

ዛፍ መትከል የአየር ንብረት መዛባትን ለመከላከል። እና ለልጆቻችን መኖር የሚቻልበት ዓለም ለማስተላለፍ ለሚደረገው ጥረት አንዱ ወሳኝ መፍትሔ ነው። እያንዳንዳችን የዚህ ጥረት ተካፋይ በመሆን ዓለማችን አረንጓዴ እንድትሆን አስተዋፅዖ እናድርግ!

Hommage à M. Ato Guefaw Wossen

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl et l’équipe de l’Ambassade ont été heureux de rendre hommage à M. Ato Guefaw Wossen. Agé de 97 ans, il est au service de l’Ambassade d’Éthiopie depuis 60 ans. M. Wossen est un homme de la plus haute intégrité et de la plus grande loyauté, un travailleur acharné et un vrai patriote.

Pendant les 60 années durant lesquelles Mr. Wossen a travaillé à l’Ambassade en tant que chauffeur et auprès des services généraux, il n’a jamais eu un seul accident. Il a toujours fait preuve d’une très grande disponibilité auprès de ses collègues et a servi son pays inlassablement. Son engagement, son sens du travail et son amour de la patrie sont une vraie source d’inspiration et un exemple pour les générations présentes et futures. Au-delà des mots, sa vie est l’incarnation même de l’amour de la patrie et devrait nous inspirer tous à apporter notre contribution pour une meilleure Éthiopie.

Reconnaissant l'immense contribution de Mr. Wossen,  l'Ambassade lui a remis un petit cadeau en témoignage de sa gratitude. Un arbre a été planté en son nom dans le jardin nouvellement aménagé. Nous adressons à M. Wossen nos respectueux et chaleureux remerciements pour son service envers notre pays et notre peuple. Merci beaucoup, Gash Guefaw!

Tribute to Mr. Ato Guefaw Wossen

A magnificent ceremony honouring Mr. Ato Guefaw Wossen was held at the Embassy in the presence of his family, friends and members of the young generation of Ethiopians in Paris. Mr. Ato Guefaw is 97 years old and still going strong. He served at the Ethiopian Embassy for 60 years and is currently enjoying his golden years. He is a man of the highest integrity, loyalty, a hard-worker and a true patriot.

During his 60 years at the Embassy where he worked as a driver and general service staff, Mr. Wossen has never had a single accident. He was always positively available for his colleagues and served his country tirelessly. His dedication, his work ethic and his love of our country are a true inspiration and an example for the current and future generations. Beyond words, the life of Mr. Wossen embodies love of country and should inspire us all to contribute our part in making our country better.

The Embassy recognized his great contribution, gave him a small token to show its appreciation and planted a tree in his name in the newly rearranged garden. Thank you very much, Gash Guefaw!

ለአቶ ግፋዉ ወሰን ክብር ቤተሰቦቻቸው፣ የቅርብ ጓደኞቻቸው እና የወጣቱ ትውልድ አባላት በተገኙበት በኤምባሲያችን እጅግ ደስ የሚል ዝግጅት በዛሬው ዕለት ተደርጓል። አቶ ግፋው የ97 ዓመት የዕድሜ ባለፀጋ ሲሆኑ፣ በኤምባሲያችን በታማኝነትና በቅንነት ለ60 ዓመት አገልግለዋል።

በኤምባሲው በሹፌርነት በሰሩበትና በጠቅላላ አገልግሎት ውስጥ በነበራቸው የሥራ ዘመን ምንም አይነት የመኪና መጋጀጨት ወይም አደጋ ሳይገጥማቸው አገልግለዋል። ከሁሉም በላይ በመልካም የሥራ ባህሪያቸው፣ በቅንነታቸውና በአገር ወዳድነታቸው ይታወቁ ነበር።

ይህ ልዩ መለያ የሆነው ታታሪነታቸው፣ የሥራና የአገር ፍቅራቸው በአሁኑና በወደፊቱ ትውልድ እንደምሳሌ ሊወሰድ ይገባል። ከቃላት በላይ እርሳቸው የአገር ፍቅር ምን እንደሆነ በተግባር አሳይተዋል። ይህም እያንዳንዳቸን ለውድ አገራችን የምንችለውን በጎ ነገር እንድናደርግና ከእርሳቸውም ሂወት ትምህርት እንወስድ ሊገፋፋን ይገባል።

ኤምባሲውም ላደረጉት እጅግ የላቀ አስተዋፅዖ የምስክር ወረቀትና ስጦታ ሰጥቷቸዋል። እንዲሁም በጊቢው ውስጥ በአዲስ መልኩ በተደራጀው ጋርደን በስማቸው ዛፍ ተክሏል።

ለአቶ ግፋዉ እጅግ የላቀ ምስጋናችንን እናቀርባለን!

La rencontre de S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl avec la Diaspora de Marseille et de la région a été l'occasion d'une très bonne discussion sur des sujets d’actualité et sur ce que nous pouvons faire et ensemble pour créer une Éthiopie plus forte et plus prospère. En tant qu'Ethiopiens, nous devons nous organiser mieux, nous entraider davantage et nous mobiliser pour notre pays bien aimé.

The meeting between H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl and the Ethiopians living in Marseille and the region was a very good interaction. This discussion was also the opportunity to talk about on current issues and what we can all do together to create a stronger & more prosperous Ethiopia. As Ethiopians, we need to be better organized, to help one another and to mobilize more support for our beloved country.

Perspectives de coopération avec Marseille

A Marseille, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré M. Philippe Zichert de la Chambre du Commerce et d’Industrie. Marseille dont l’histoire remonte à 2 600 ans, est la deuxième ville la plus peuplée de France et possède son port le plus important. Au cours des siècles, la ville et son port ont servi de porte d’accès pour des délégations éthiopiennes, y compris au plus haut niveau, lorsqu’elles se rendaient en France et en Europe.

Récemment au mois de juillet 2019 Ethiopian Airlines est devenu la première et la seule compagnie aérienne à offrir une liaison directe entre Marseille et l’Afrique Sub-Saharienne. En exploitant les opportunités offertes par ses vols ainsi que la forte croissance économique de l’Ethiopie et le vrai savoir-faire des entreprises de la région, notamment dans les domaines des industries pharmaceutiques, chimiques, touristiques, IT et les services portuaires, nous sommes convenus de la nécessité d’établir des liens entre les deux chambres de commerce en organisant des visites réciproques de délégation afin de jeter les bases pour une coopération économique et des affaires.

Cooperation perspectives with Marseille

In Marseille, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met with Mr. Phillipe Zichert of the Marseille Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Marseille, whose history dates back to 2,600 years, is second most populous city in France and hosts its most important port. Over the centuries, the city has been the point of access to Ethiopian delegations, including high level ones, coming to France.

Recently, in the month of July 2019 Ethiopian Airlines became the first airline to offer direct connection between Marseille and Sub-Saharan Africa. Taking advantage of these flights, the great opportunities Ethiopia’s fast growing economy offers and the excellent capacities n pharmaceutical, chemical, IT, tourism and port services of Marseille, we have agreed to establish relations between our two chambers of commerce, and organize visits in Ethiopia and Marseille so as to lay foundation for start of economic and business relations.

በዛሬው ዕለት በማርሰይ ከተማ ከአቶ ፊሊፕ ዚሼር የማርሰይ የንግድና ኢንዱስትሪ ም/ቤት አባል ጋር ተገናኝተናል። ማርሰይ የ2600 ዓመት ታሪክ ያላት ከተማ ስትሆን፣ ባለፉት ጊዜያትም ወደ ፈረንሳይም ሆነ ወደ አውሮፓ የሚመጡ የአገራችን ልዑካን ቡድኖች ወደቧን ይጠቀሙ ነበር።

በቅርቡም ብሔራዊ አየር መንገዳችን የመጀመሪያውንና ብቸኛውን በማርሰይና ከሰሃራ በታች ያሉ አፍሪካ አገሮች የአየር ግንኙነት መጀመሩ ይታወሳል።

Projet d'exposition "le Peuple, le Livre, la Terre"

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a organisé une réunion avec M. Shimon Samuels, Directeur des Relations Internationales du Centre Simon Wiesenthal. Le Centre avec le soutien de l’UNESCO a choisi l’Ethiopie pour organiser sa première exposition et conférence intitulées “le Peuple, le Livre, la Terre” sur le sol africain. Le choix de l’Ethiopie est le reflet des liens forts et historiques entre l’Ethiopie et Israel.

"People, Book, Land" exhibition project

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl has organized a meeting with M. Shimon Samuels, Director for International Relations of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre. The Centre together with UNESCO is considering Ethiopia as the first African country where it plans to organize its exhibition and conference on the Jewish people and the Holy Land entitled “People, Book, Land”. The choice of Ethiopia is a reflection the strong historic and people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and Israel.

Rénovation de la Maison d'Arthur Rimbaud à Harar

La restauration de la Maison d'Arthur Rimbaud à Harar vient de s'achever. Une guesthouse vient compléter cet ensemble exceptionnel avec une insertion parfaite dans l'environnement architectural. Ce projet a été réalisé avec le soutien du gouvernement français.

Merci à l’Ambassade de France en Éthiopie, à l’Ambassadeur Bontems, et au Service de Coopération représenté par M.Hubert Tardy et Mlle Pauline Lecointe pour ce projet magnifique, symbole fort des relations entre l’Ethiopie et la France. Le célèbre poète, Arthur Rimbaud a vécu à Harar à la fin du 19ème siècle.

Ceci n’est que le début. Mais ce type de lieux d’hébergement et d’infrastructures à une échelle encore plus grande sont indispensables afin d’attirer en grand nombre dès touristes et des visiteurs vers notre pays et vers Harar.

Restoration of Arthur Rimbaud's house in Harar

The restoration of Arthur Rimbaud's house in Harar is now completed. A guesthouse welcomes visitors with a perfect integration in the surrounding architecture. This project was achieved with the support of the French government.

Thank you to the French Embassy, to Ambassador Bontems and to the Cultural Cooperation Sectionrepresented by Mr. Hubert Tardy and Ms Pauline Lecointe. This magnificent project is a strong symbol of Ethiopia-French relations. The famous poet Arthur Rimbaud lived in Harar at end of 19th century.

This is just the beginning but such guest house and accommodation facilities at bigger scale are essential to attract visitors and tourists to Ethiopia and the historical city of Harar.

Réunion au Ministère de la Culture

Au Ministère de la Culture, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré M. Grolier, le Conseiller en charge des affaires internationales. La France soutient de nombreux projets culturels en Éthiopie. Elle est notamment engagée dans la préservation des Églises de la Lalibela, la restoration du Palais National et la digitalisation des Archives nationales. Une équipe d’experts se rendra prochainement en Éthiopie dans le cadre du projet des Églises de Lalibela.

Meeting at the Ministry of Culture

At the French Ministry of Culture, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met with Mr. Grolier, Advisor to the Minister for international affairs. France is supporting many cultural projects in Ethiopia. This commitment includes the preservation of Lalibela Churches, the conservation of the National Palace, and the digitalization of National Archives. A team of French experts will head to Ethiopia in September 2019 as part of the Lalibela Churches conservation project.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a organisé une réunion avec M. Jean-Luc Raguz, nouvellement désigné Proviseur du Lycée Guebremariam à Addis Abeba. M. Raguz possède une très longue expérience et a fait un très bon travail dans les lycées où il a servi précédemment. Il va apporter avec lui des idées intéressantes pour améliorer la qualité de l’enseignement dans ce lycée qui demeure le symbole des relations franco-éthiopiennes.

Festivités du 14 Juillet à Paris

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra était présent pour assister au Défilé du 14 Juillet sur les Champs Elysées. A la suite de cette célébration officielle, une garden party diplomatique a été organisée. De nombreux officiels, ambassadeurs, membres du corps diplomatique, fonctionnaires internationaux et responsables d’entreprise étaient présents pour cet événement majeur du calendrier diplomatique.

Le Groupe Africain à l’UNESCO était aussi à l’honneur cette année. Pour la première fois, la culture éthiopienne a été présente avec un stand invitant à apprécier sa musique, ses danses et son café.

L'Ambassade remercie les sponsors qui l'ont accompagné,  notamment TOTAL, Canal +, Groupe Soufflet et notre porte-drapeau, Ethiopian Airlines.

Bastille Day in Paris

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl was present to watch Bastille Day parade on the Champs Elysées. After this official celebration, the diplomatic garden party was organized. Officials, ambassadors, members of diplomatic corps, international civil servants and business leaders were present.

The Africa Group at UNESCO was also honored this year. For the first time, the culture of Ethiopia was promoted with music, danses and coffee in a dedicated stand. 

The Embassy thanks our sponsors, in particular TOTAL, Canal +, Groupe Soufflet and our beloved national carrier Ethiopian Airlines for making it possible to participate in the most prestigious event of the diplomatic calendar.

Lors d’une réception aujourd’hui à l’ambassade d’Erythrée en présence des membres des deux ambassades, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a dit adieu à S.E. Mme l’Ambassadrice Hanna Simon dont la mission prend fin. S.E. Mme l'Ambassadrice a beaucoup œuvré pour rapprocher nos deux communautés. Nous lui souhaitons bon vent pour sa prochaine mission.

Les liens y compris de sang entre nos peuples frères sont plus forts que jamais.

At a reception today at the Eritrean Embassy in the presence of all staff of both missions, we bid farewell to our H.E. Ambassador Hanna Simon of Eritrea who finished her tour of duty in France. Ambassador Hanna did a lot to bring closer our two communities. We wish her all the best in her new assignment.

The bonds and blood ties between our two brotherly peoples are stronger than ever.

Une délégation éthiopienne reçoit le "Trophée de l'Humanité"

Une délégation éthiopienne comprenant H.E. Mme l'ambassadeur Mahlet Hailu, Secrétaire Permanente au ministère des Affaires Etrangères, Ato Mahdi Gire Roble, maire de Dire Dawa; Ato Gadisa Birhanu, responsable d'ONG et Ato Abdurahman Mohamed, professionnel de la santé, était à Lyon pour participer au 19ème sommet humanitaire annuel "Dialogues en Humanité" organisé du 5 au 7 juillet 2019.

Un large éventail de questions a été discuté et les meilleures pratiques ont été partagées entre les participants au dialogue. S.E. Mme l'Ambassadeur Mahlet Hailu et Ato Mahdi Gire Roble ont reçu le "Trophée de l’Humanité" de l’année parmi les lauréats. À la fin de cette rencontre, il a également été annoncé qu'un dialogue similaire aurait lieu à Dire Dawa en 2020.

An Ethiopian delegation receives the "Trophée de l'Humanité" award

An Ethiopian delegation including H.E. Ambassador Mahlet Hailu, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ato Mahdi Gire Roble, Mayor of Dire Dawa; Ato Gadisa Birhanu, from NGO and Ato Abdurahman Mohamed, Medical professional, based on invitation from the organizers, participated on the 19th ¨Dialogues en humanite”, an annual humanitarian summit, which was held from July 5-7/2019 in Lyon city, France.

 During the dialogue, participants discussed a wide range of issues and shared best practices . H.E. Ambassador Mahlet Hailu and Ato Mahdi Gire Roble were awarded the year’s “le trophée de l’humanité” among other winners. It was also declared at the end of the dialogue that similar dialogue will be held in Dire Dawa in 2020.

Le Club Demeter prépare une mission en Ethiopie

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl rencontre M. Jean-François Isambert et M. Sébastien Abis, deux représentants du Club Demeter, une association qui regroupe 61 entreprises et structures professionnelles dans le domaine agricole et agroalimentaire.

Avec le soutien de MEDEF International et en particulier de M. Alexandre Boudet, une très large délégation comprenant des PDG et des responsables de plus de 25 entreprises et structures travaillant dans ces secteurs effectueront une visite de prospection en Éthiopie du 15 au 19 septembre 2019.

A cette occasion, les membres du Club Demeter rencontreront des responsables gouvernementaux, des investisseurs locaux et internationaux, des associations agricoles et des start-ups afin de mieux apprécier l'énorme potentiel et l'excellent retour sur investissement  dans ce secteur.

Club Demeter prepares a mission in Ethiopia

HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl meets with Mr. Jean-François Isambert and Mr. Sébastien Abis, executives of Club Demeter, an organization that brings together 61 of the largest French companies working in the agriculture and agro-processing field.

With the assistance of MEDEF International and Mr. Alexandre Boudet in particular, a large delegation comprising of CEOs and Senior VPs of over 25 large French companies and entities in the agricultural field will be making an exploratory visit to Ethiopia between 15 September and 19 September 2019.

On this occasion, Demeter members will meet government officials, local and international investors, farmer associations, agri and food tech start-ups with to better grasp the huge potential and excellent ROI of Ethiopia in the agriculture and agro-processing sector.

Avec les Ambassadeurs du Groupe Afrique, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl rencontre S.E.M. Nana Akufo-Addo, Président du Ghana en visite à Paris. L'Afrique doit mettre en oeuvre la Zone Libre Echange Continentale dont le Secrétariat sera basé à Accra. Ce développement institutionnel va contribuer à accélerer le processus d'intégration économique du continent.

Meeting along with Ambassadors of the Africa Group on the occasion of the official visit in France of H.E. Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana. Africa should implement the Continental Free Trade Area and the Secretariat will be based in Accra. This institutional development will contribute to accelerate the economic integration of the continent.

Renforcement du partenriat sur la promotion de la parité

Partenariat - A Paris, S.E. Mme Desta WoldeYohannes, Directrice du Service des Enfants et des Adoptions du MAE éthiopien a rencontré Mme Saniye Gulser Corat, Directrice de la Division pour Femmes et Egalité à l’UNESCO.

Cette rencontre a été l’occasion d’une discussion fructueuse sur les engagements actuels pris par l’Éthiopie en faveur des femmes : émancipation, représentativité, opportunités, droits et égalité. S.E. Mme l’Ambassadeur Desta a demandé à l’UNESCO de renforcer son rôle en participant à tous les projets concernant les femmes dans le pays.

Mme Saniye Gulser Corat a salué les efforts de l’Éthiopie. Elle a aussi présenté certaines des activités menées par l’UNESCO en Afrique en général et en Éthiopie en particulier. Mme Saniye a souligné que l’Afrique et les questions liées à la parité sont parmi les priorités de l’UNESCO.  L’Éthiopie est éligible sur les deux critères pour travailler en étroite collaboration.

Strenghtening the partnership to promote gender equality

In Paris, H.E. Mrs. Desta WoldeYohannes, Director of the Department of Children and Adoptions of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with Mrs. Saniye Gulser Corat, Director of the Division for Women and Equality at UNESCO.

This meeting was the occasion for a fruitful discussion on Ethiopia's current commitments to supporting women: empowerment, opportunities, representation, rights and equality. H.E. Ambassador Desta asked UNESCO to strengthen its role by participating in all projects concerning women in the country.

Mrs. Saniye Gulser Corat commended the efforts of Ethiopia. She also presented some of UNESCO's activities in Africa in general and in Ethiopia in particular. Mrs. Saniye emphasized that Africa and gender issues are among UNESCO's priorities. Ethiopia is eligible on both criteria to work closely together.

Ethiopian Airlines arrive à Marseille

M. Essayas Gota, Chef adjoint de mission, représentait l’Ambassade d’Ethiopie en France lors de la cérémonie d’accueil du premier vol d’Ethiopian Airlines vers Marseille.

Ethiopian Airlines va proposer trois rotations par semaines avec deux Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (270 passagers) et 787-9 Dreamliner (315 passagers). Pour une meilleure gestion du temps, les allers retours sont effectués en vols de nuit. Marseille devient ainsi la 20ème destination en Europe et la 121^ème destination internationale d’Ethiopian Airlines qui vole vers 5 continents. A cette occasion, le Président d’Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde GebreMariam rappelé que sa compagnie est présente en France depuis 48 ans avec des vols quotidiens sur Paris.

Ethiopian Airlines lands in Marseille

Mr. Essayas Gota, Deputy Head of Mission, represented the Embassy of Ethiopia in France at the welcoming ceremony of the first flight of Ethiopian Airlines to Marseille.

Ethiopian Airlines will propose three 3 rotations per week with two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (270 passengers) and 787-9 Dreamliner (315 passengers). For better time management, roundtrips are performed in night flights. Marseille becomes the 20th destination in Europe and the 121st international destination of Ethiopian Airlines flying to 5 continents. On this occasion, President of Ethiopian Airlines Tewolde GebreMariam specified that his company has been present in France for 48 years with daily flights to Paris.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a accueilli M. Éric Duval à l'Ambassade. Président fondateur du Groupe Duval, il dirige l’un des plus importants groupes familiaux en France. Le Groupe Duval est spécialisé dans l'immobilier avec d'autres activités qui incluent le financement et le soutien à l'innovation. Grand ami de l’Éthiopie, Mr. Duval est en train d’évaluer les opportunités d’investissements dans notre pays, en particulier dans l’immobilier et l’agroalimentaire, en partenariat avec des investisseurs locaux. Compte tenu des immenses opportunités du marché éthiopien et de son excellent retour sur investissement, le Groupe devrait bientôt être présent dans notre pays.

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl welcomed Mr. Eic Duval at the Embassy. Founding President of Groupe Duval, Mr. Duval is leading one of the largest family owned businesses in France. Groupe Duval specializes in real estate with activities including financing and support to innovation. Mr. Duval, a great friend of Ethiopia, is looking at investment opportunities in our country especially in real-estate and agro-processing, in partnership with local investors. Considerig the huge opportunities and high return of investment on the Ethiopian marketoffers, Group Duval will soon be present in our country.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a organisé une réunion à l'Ambassade avec M. Mario Pezzini, Directeur du Centre de Développement de l'OCDE. Les discussions étaient centrées autour des questions bilatérales et multilatérales. L’OCDE fait un travail remarquable en soutien à la Commission de l’Union africaine, notamment dans l’élaboration du rapport annuel. Sur le plan bilatéral, des pays en développement peuvent tirer beaucoup de bénéfices de l’expertise et du savoir-faire de l’OCDE dans l’élaboration, le monitoring, l’évaluation et la mobilisation de resources pour leur plan de development national.

Meeting with M. Mario Pezzini, Director of the Development Center

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl has organized a meeting at the Embassy with Mr. Mario Pezzini, Director of the Development Center of OECD. The discussions focused on bilateral and multilateral issues. The OECD is doing a remarkable work in support of the African Union Commission, in patticular with the preparation of the annual report. Regarding bilateral dossiers, many developing countries can gain a lot from the unmatched OECD expertise and know-how in sourcing, monitoring, evaluating and mobilizing resources for their national development plans.

Investir en Ethiopie

Le succès était au rendez-vous de l'atelier organisé par Business France sur les opportunités du marché éthiopien. De nombreuses entreprises françaises représentant plusieurs secteurs était présentes, confirmant leur intérêt pour le marché éthiopien et leurs projets pour s'y développer.

L'Ambassade travaille avec des organisations françaises telles que Business France et MEDEF International pour organiser des visites exploratoires destinées aux entreprises opérant notamment dans les secteurs agroalimentaire, industrie et tourisme.

Cet atelier a été l'occasion d'échanger sur l'expérience d’entreprises étrangères ayant investi en Éthiopie telles Africa 54 Capital. Des entreprises locales venues tout spécialement de l’Ethiopie telles que East Africa Holding et Quadrant Investment étaient aussi présentes.

L’Ethiopie est un pays très attractif avec un marché ouvert aux affaires. Ses nombreux atouts incluent une croissance économique très forte, une classe moyenne émergente, un climat d’affaires en nette amélioration, un cadre qui se libéralise, des infrastructures de qualité qui se modernisent, des coûts de production intéressants au niveau de l'énergie et des salaires.

Investing in Ethiopia

The workshop organized by Business France on opportunities in Ethiopia was a success with a large number of French companies attending! This presence confirms a their interest for the Ethiopian market and their plans to invest in Ethiopia in various sectors.

The Embassy is closely working with French organizations such as Business France and MEDEF International  to organize exploratory visits for French companies, especially in agro-processing, manufacturing and tourism sectors.

The workshop was the opportunity to get testimonies of companies working in Ethiopia such as Africa 54 Capital. Ethiopian companies such as East Africa Holding & Quadrant Investment came from Ethiopia for the purpose of this workshop.

Ethiopia is a very attractive country with a vibrant marketplace open for business. Key assets include fast economic growth, rising middle class, improved business environment, strategic sectors liberalization, quality infrastructures, low energy and labor costs.

Partenariat avec Campus France

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré les responsables de Campus France, organisme public qui fait la promotion des études supérieures en France et gère les bourses.

La France augmente son soutien pour que nos compatriotes Ethiopiens puissent faire leurs études supérieur dans les meilleures conditions. A travers un accord bilatéral, une trentaine de doctorants bénéficient actuellement de bourses françaises.

Par ailleurs, cette année 5 bourses à couverture sociale et 11 exonérations des frais de scolarité sont proposés pour les bacheliers du Lycée Guebremariam d'Addis Abeba. On travaille pour augmenter encore ce soutien pour l’année prochaine, y compris avec la participation des entreprises françaises.

En novembre 2019, un programme de promotion de l'enseignement supérieur à l'étranger destiné au public sera organisé à Addis Abéba en présence de 35 institutions d’études supérieures européennes qui viendront également avec leurs offres de bourse.

Partnership with Campus France

HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met with executives of Campus France, a French public organization promoting higher learning studies in France and managing scholarships for foreign students.

France is scaling up its support for higher learning studies in the country. Some 30 Ethiopian doctorate students are benefiting from a French support arranged by a bilateral agreement signed two years ago.

This year, 5 French baccalaureate holders of Lycée Guebremariam in Addis will benefit from scholarships and 11 will get exemptions from admission fee payments. We are working to further increase this support for next year, including with participation of French companies.

In November 2019, an Education Fair is planned in Addis Ababa with the participation of some 35 European higher learning institutions to promote studies in Europe, including their scholarship offerings.

በትላንትናው እለት Campus France ከተባለ የውጭ አገር ተማሪዎች በፈረንሳይ ትምህርታቸውን እንዲከታተሉ የሚያበረታታና ስኮላርሽፕ የሚያስተዳድር የመንግሥት ድርጅት ኃላፊዎች ጋር ስብስብ አድርገናል።

ፈረንሳይ የአገራችን ዜጎች በአገሪቷ ትምህርታቸውን እንዲከታተሉ የምትሰጠውን ድጋፍ እየጨመረች ነው። በሁለቱ አገራት በተፈረመ ስምምነት መሠረት ሰላሳ የሚሆኑ የዶክትሬት ትምህርት የሚከታተሉ ዜጎቻችን የስኮላርሺፕ ድጋፍ እያገኙ ነው።

በዚህ ዓመት በሊሴ ገብረማርያም ባካሎሬያ ለሚያገኙ 5 ተማሪዎች ስኮላርሽፕ ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆኑ እና 11 ተማሪዎች ደግሞ ከምዝገባ ክፍያ ነፃ እንዲሆኑ ተደርጓል። ይህ ድጋፍ በሚቀጥለው ዓመት እንዲጠናከርና የፈረንሣይ ኩባንያዎች ድጋፍም እንዲታከልበት በመሥራት ላይ እንገኛለን።

እ.ኤ.አ. በኖቬምበር ወር 2019 ዓ.ም. ወደ ሰላሳ አምስት የሚጠጉ የአውሮፓ ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት የሚሳተፉበት በአውሮፓ ስላሉ የትምህርት እድሎችና የስኮላርሺፕ ድጋፍ የማስተዋወቅ ፕሮግራም በአዲስ አበባ ይዘጋጃል።

S.E.M. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, Ambassadeur de Djibouti en France a organisé un dîner amical en l'honneur de S.E.M. Ambassadeur Teferra Shawl. Plusieurs membres du corps diplomatique à Paris étaient présents, notamment les Ambassadeurs de la Zambie, Tunisie, Égypte, Guinée, Oman, Cuba, Yémen, Rwanda (doyen des Ambassadeurs Africains) ainsi que le DG adjoint de l’UNESCO, le Conseiller spécial de la Francophonie et le Directeur politique au Quai d’Orsay.

L’Ethiopie est un pays ami de tous et se tient prête, plus que jamais, à travailler avec tous sur la base des intérêts et bénéfices mutuels. Un grand merci à S.E. M. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, Ambassadeur de Djibouti en France, pour cette amicale initiative. Les liens et le partenariat stratégique qui unissent nos deux pays et peuples frères n’ont jamais été aussi forts.

Welcome dinner

Djibouti Ambassador HE Ayeid Mousseid Yahya hosted a friendly dinner to welcome HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl in France. Several members of the diplomatic corps in Paris attended the event, including Ambassadors of Zambia, Tunisia, Egypt, Guinea, Oman, Cuba, Yemen, Rwanda (Dean of the African Ambassadors) and the Assistant Director General of UNESCO, the Special Advisor of the SG of Organisation of French Speaking Countries and the Political Director at French Foreign Ministry.

Ethiopia is a friendly country more than ever, ready to work with all on the basis of principle of mutual interests and benefit. A big thank you to  H.E. Mr. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya Ambassador of Djibouti in France for this friendly initiative! The bonds and strategic ties between our two brotherly countries and peoples have never been stronger.

Réunion au Quai d'Orsay

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a participé à une réunion de haut niveau au Quai d'Orsay, en présence de S.E. M. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secrétaire d’Etat auprès du Ministre de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères. Les représentants d'une dizaine de pays d’Afrique, d’Europe, des Amériques et d’Asie étaient présents pour discuter sur un projet de déclaration concernant un partenariat international pour l’information et la démocratie.

Cette initiative lancée par le Président Emmanuel Macron vise à créer un forum d’experts internationaux conduit par Reporters Sans Frontières qui aura pour tâche de formuler des recommandations non-contraignantes pour les fournisseurs de service en ligne et les États. L’objectif est d’assurer le pluralisme de l’information sur les plateformes électroniques (médias sociaux et moteurs de recherche) et de mettre en oeuvre une lutte efficace contre la propagation de fausses nouvelles.

Meeting at the Quai d'Orsay

HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl attented a meeting at the French Foreign Ministry (Quai d'Orsay) with French State Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. Representatives of a dozen countries from Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia were present to discuss about a draft declaration regarding an international partnership on information and democracy.

Launched by President Emmanuel Macron, this initiative aims to create a forum of international experts to be led by Reporters Without Borders in view to propose non-binding recommendations to online service providers and States. The objective is to ensure pluralism of information on online platforms (social media and search engines) and to develop more efficient ways and tools to combat fake news.

Match d'ouverture de la Coupe du Monde de Football Féminin

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl était au Parc des Princes pour le match d’ouverture de la Coupe de Monde de Football Féminin. Cet évènement réunissait la France et la Corée du Sud sur la pelouse.

La veille de ce coup d'envoi, S.E. Mme Sahle-Work Zewde, Présidente de la République Fédérale Démocratique d'Ethiopie, avait participé à la première Convention Internationale sur le Football Féminin en tant qu'invitée d'honneur de la FIFA. Place aux femmes sur le terrain comme dans la vie ! Les hommes doivent accepter d’être aussi des spectateurs.

Le spectacle était au rendez-vous avec une vraie démonstration du beau jeu sur le terrain, surtout par la France. En l’absence de l’équipe d’Ethiopie, l'équipe de l'Ambassade et les Africains de France soutiennent les 3 équipes africaines en compétition : Afrique du Sud, Cameroun et Nigéria. On compte sur elles pour amener la coupe en Afrique !

Dans la tribune officielle, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur était assis près du Président Macron, avec les géants masculins des années passées, dont Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso et l’inoubliable Juan Sébastien Veron - tous les trois de dos sur la photo.

Opening match of the Women's Football World Cup

HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl was at the Parc des Princes for the opening match of the Women's World Cup in Paris. This event brought France and South Korea together on the pitch.

On the eve of this kick-off, HE Mrs. Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, participated in the first International Convention on Women's Football as the guest of honor of FIFA. The place women is on the grass as it is in life! Men must accept to be spectators too.

The match was a true demonstration of the beautiful game on the pitch, especially by the French team. In the absence of the Ethiopian team, the Embassy team and the Africans from France are supporting the 3 African teams: Cameroon, Nigeria, and South Africa. We rely on them to bring the trophy on the continent!

In the official gallery, HE Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl was seated next to President Macron, with the world football giants of the past years, including Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and the unforgettable Juan Sebastian Veron - all the three of them are seen from the back on the photo.

ውብ የሆነ ጨዋታ በተለይም በፈረንሳይ ብሔራዊ ቡድን ዘንድ ለማየት ችለናል። የአገራችን ቡድን፣ ሉሲዎቹ፣ በውድድሩ የማይሳተፍ በመሆኑ፣ ሶስቱን የአፍሪካ ቡድኖች ማለትም ናይጄሪያ፣ ደቡብ አፍሪካ ኤና ካሜሩን እንደግፋለን። አንዳቸውም ዋንጫውን ወደ አህጉራችን እንደሚያመጡት ተስፋ አለን።

Double célébration

La journée de l’Afrique marquant la signature du traité créant l’Organisation de l’Unité Africaine à Addis Abéba a été célébrée au centre culturel de l’ambassade avec une exposition de photographie intitulée de “Ethiopie d’une présence à l’autre” de François Pache. Les photos, pour la plupart des portraits, nous font voyager à travers l’Ethiopie dans toute sa beauté et sa diversité. L’expo a été accompagnée d’une cérémonie de café, de la cuisine éthiopienne et d’un groupe de musiciens sénégalais.

L’autre célébration a marqué le jour d’Indépendance de l’Erythrée, pays frère. Cette journée a été célébrée avec S.E. Mme l'Ambassadeur Hanna Simon et la communauté érythréenne à Paris dans un esprit de fraternité et de solidarité qui caractérise les relations entre nos deux pays depuis la paix retrouvée suite à l’ascension de S.E. le Premier Ministre le Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

Double celebration

The Africa Day marking the signature of the treaty establishing the Organisation of African Unity in Addis Ababa was celebrated at the cultural center of our Embassy with a photo exhibition entitled “Ethiopia from one presence to another” by François Apache. Most of the photos are portraits inviting us to travel across the beauty and diversity of Ethiopia. The exhibition was promoted by a traditional coffee ceremony, Ethiopian food and music by a Senegalese band.

The other celebration was the Independence Day of Eritrea celebrated with H.E. Mme Hanna Simon, Ambassador of Eritrea, and the Eritrean community in Paris. This special day was celebrated with a spirit of fraternity and solidarity which characterizes the relations between our two sisterly countries after the peace agreement following the coming to power of H.E. Prime Ministre Dr. Abiy.

አንዱ በኤምባሲያችን የባህል ማዕከል "ኢትዮጵያ ፡ ከአንድ ዕይታ ወደ ሌላ" በሚል ርዕስ የአፍሪካ ቀንን ለማክበር የተዘጋጀ ነው። ይህ ወቅት የአገራችን ቡና እና ምግብ እንዲሁም የሴኔጌል ሙዚቃ የታጀበ ነበር።

ሌላኛው ከእህቴ አምባሳደር ሃና እና ከኤርትራ ኮሙኒቲ ጋር በመሆን ክቡር ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትራችን፣ ዶ/ር አብይ አህመድ፣ ሥልጣን ከያዙ ወዲህ በሁለቱ አገራትና ወንድም ህዝቦች መካከል ያለውን ወዳጅነት በሚያንፀባርቅ መልኩ የአገሪቷ የነፃነት ቀን የተከበረበት ነው።

Présentation des Lettres de créances au Saint-Siège

S.E.M. Henok Teferra, Ambassadeur extraordinaire et plénipotentiaire de la République fédérale démocratique d'Éthiopie en France, a présenté ses lettres de créance à Sa Sainteté le Pape François, en tant qu'ambassadeur non-résident d'Éthiopie près le Saint-Siège (Vatican) le 23 mai 2010. La cérémonie s'est déroulée dans la Salle Clémentine du Palais Apostolique du Vatican.

Dans son discours, Sa Sainteté le Pape François a souligné l'importance de la fraternité pour relever les défis mondiaux de plus en plus complexes. Il a remercié la communauté internationale pour ses efforts constants pour surmonter les situations de conflit armé, tracer des chemins menant à la paix et voir à quel point le dialogue fraternel est indispensable pour atteindre ces objectifs les plus précieux. Il a enfin assuré les ambassadeurs de la coopération et du soutien des divers bureaux du Saint-Siège dans l'exercice de leurs nouvelles responsabilités au service de leurs pays.

S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a également été reçu en audience par divers responsables du Saint-Siège. Parmi eux figuraient S.Em. le cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secrétaire d’État, S.E. Mgr Paul Richard Gallagher, Secrétaire pour les relations avec les États, et S.E.Mgr Edgar Pena Parra, Suppléant du Secrétaire d’État. A l'occasion de ces entretiens, diverses questions concernant notament les  relations bilatérales, régionales, continentales et mondiales d’importance mutuelle ont été abordées. S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a remercié le Saint-Siège pour son soutien à l’Éthiopie dans les secteurs sociaux, en mentionnant en particulier la création de la nouvelle université catholique, qui est déjà opérationnelle. Il a appelé les responsables à renforcer la présence de l’université dans diverses régions d’Éthiopie. Ces réunions ont été très fructueuses.

Lors de son séjour au Vatican, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl s’est également rendu au Pontificio Collegio Ethiopico de Benedetto XV et a rencontré des responsables de l’Église, qui se trouvaient être des Éthiopiens. L’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl faisait partie des neuf ambassadeurs qui ont également présenté leurs Lettres de créance.

Presentation of Credential Letters to the Holy See

H.E Ambassador Henok Teferra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to France has presented his credential to His Holiness Pope Francis, as the Non-Resident Ambassador of Ethiopia to the Holy See( Vatican) on 23 May 2019. The ceremony was organized in the Clementine Room of the Apostolic Palace in Vatican.

His Holiness Pope Francis in his keynote speech underlined the importance of fraternity to address the increasingly complex global challenges. He expressed his appreciation to the ongoing efforts of the international community in overcoming situations of armed conflict, in forging pathways of peace and in seeing how fraternal dialogue is indispensable for achieving those most precious objectives. He finally assured the Ambassadors of the Cooperation and support of the various offices of the Holy See in the discharge of their new responsibilities of serving their countries.

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl had audiences with high officials of the Holy See, including His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, H.Exc. Mrg. Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States, H.Exc. Mgr. Archbishop Edgar Pena Parra, Substitute of the Secretary of State and others. It was at the meetings with these officials that various issues ranging from bilateral relations to regional, continental and global affairs of mutual importance were discussed. Ambassador Henok thanked the Holy See for its support to Ethiopia in Social Sectors, with particular mention of the establishment of the new Catholic University, which is up and running. He called upon the officials to expand the university’s presence in various parts of Ethiopia. Overall, the meetings went very well.

During his stay in Vatican, Ambassador Henok had also paid a visit to Pontificio Collegio Ethiopico de Benedetto xv and met with the Church officials who happen to be Ethiopians. Ambassador Henok was among the nine Ambassadors who also presented their credentials.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a présenté ses Lettres de créance au Saint Siège au Vatican. Les copies ont été remises à Mgr l’Archevêque Edgar Peña Parra, Substitut des Affaires générales au Secrétariat d’Etat. Le Saint Siège participe au développement de l'Ethiopie grâce à ses soutiens, notamment dans les domaines éducatifs et sociaux. Nous avons appelé au renforcement de ces appuis et de nos relations historiques.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a aussi rencontré le Collège pontifical éthiopien, le seul Collège d’un autre pays se situant au sein du Vatican. Le Collège pontifical éthiopien est un séminaire de l’Eglise catholique fondé au Vatican en 1481 pour la formation de jeunes Ethiopiens et Erythréens aspirant à la prêtrise. Il accueille actuellement 15 séminaristes des deux pays. Le Collège est une fierté pour notre pays, un symbole de sa grande histoire ainsi que de la fraternité ininterrompue entre l’Ethiopie et l’Erythrée quel que soit la situation politique.

Presentation of Credential Letters to the Holy See

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl has presented copies of Credentials at the Holy See in the Vatican to the Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretary of State, Msgr Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra. The Holy See contributes to the development of Ethiopia, namely thru the support to education and other social sectors. We have called for the strengthening of this support and overall relations with the Holy See.

After the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl was welcomed by the Pontifical Ethiopian College, the only foreign College situated within the walls of the Holy See. The College is a seminary of the Catholic Church founded in 1481 to train young aspiring Ethiopian and Eritrean priests and is currently hosting 15 seminarists from the two countries. The College is a pride of our country, a symbol of our great history as well as of the uninterrupted brotherhood between Ethiopia and Eritrea irrespective of the political situation.

በዛሬው እለት የቫቲካን ባለሙሉ ሥልጣን አምባሳደር የሹመት ደብዳቤ ቅጂ ለቫቲካን የመንግሥት ፅ/ቤት የጠቅላላ ጉዳዮች ኃላፊ፣ ሊቀ ጳጳስ ኤድጋር ፔኛ ፓራ፣ አቅርቤያለሁ። ቫቲካን ለአገራችን ልማት በተለይም በትምህርትና በማህበራዊ ዘርፍ ድጋፍ እያደረገች ትገኛለች። ይህ ድጋፍና የሁለቱ መንግሥታት ግንኙነት እንዲጠናከር ጥሪ ቀርቧል።

ከስብሰባው በኋላ በቫቲካን የሚገኘውን ብቸኛው የውጭ አገር ኮሌጅ፣ የኢትዮጵያ ጳጳሳት ኮሌ፣ መጎብኘት ተችሏል። ኮሌጁ እ.ኤ.አ. በ1481 ዓ.ም. የተመሠረተ ሲሆን፣ ወጣት የኢትዮጵያና እና የኤርትራ የቄስ ትምህርት ተማሪዎችን ያስተናግዳል። በአሁኑ ወቅት 15 የሚሆኑ የሁለቱ አገሮች ሠልጣኞች በኮሌጁ ይገኛሉ።

ኮሌጁ የአገራችን ኩራት፣ የታላቅ ታሪካችን እና የፖለቲካ ሁኔታ ሊቀለብሰው የማይችል የኢትዮጵያና የኤርትራ ወንድማማችነት መገለጫ ነው።

Lancement de la Semaine Africaine

Lancement de la semaine africaine du 20 au 24 mai à l’UNESCO où pendant une semaine les pays africains mettent en valeur leur culture. L’événement célèbre la journée africaine, le 25 mai, date de la création de l’Organisation de l’Unité Africaine, dont notre Empereur Sa Majesté Impériale Haïlé Selassié I fut le principal architecte.

L'Ethiopie est bien présente lors de la Semaine Africaine avec sa culture et ses produits artisanaux. Nous avons récemment accueilli la Journée Mondiale de la Liberté de la Presse à Addis Abéba et notre Premier Ministre S.E. Dr. Abiy a été choisi comme le vainqueur du plus prestigieux prix de l’UNESCO, le Prix Félix Houphouet Boigny pour sa contribution exceptionnelle à la paix.

Le thème de la Semaine Africaine cette année est la paix, l’innovation et le développement durable.

Opening ceremony of the Africa Week

Opening ceremony of the Africa Week at UNESCO from 20 to 24 May. During the week, African countries will promote their cultures, in all aspects. The event celebrates Africa Day on 25 May, date of the establishment of the Organization of African Unity, an initiative inspired by our Emperor HIM Majesty Haile Selassie I who was the principal architect.

Ethiopia is well represented with artwork and products. We have recently hosted World Press Freedom Day in Addis Ababa and our Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Abiy has been awarded with the 2019 Felix Houphouet-Boigny Prize,  UNESCO’s most prestigious award,  for his exceptional contribution to peace.

The theme of this year’s Africa Week is peace, innovation and sustainable development.

የአፍሪካ ስምንት ዛሬ በUNESCO በይፋ የተጀመረ ሲሆን፣ ከግንቦት 13 እስከ 16 ቀን ይከበራል። በዚህ ወቅት የአፍሪካ አገሮች ባህላቸውን ያስተዋውቃሉ። ይህ ሳንምት የአፍሪካ ቀንን ታስቦ የሚከበር ሲሆን፣ የአፍሪካ ቀን ደግሞ የአፍሪካ አንድነት ድርጅት ምሥረታ የሚታወስበት ቀን ነው። እንደሚታወቀው ለአፍሪካ አንድነት ድርጅት ምሥረታ ዋናውን ሚና የተጫወቱት ግርማዊነታቸው፣ ቀዳማዊ አፄ ኃይለሥላሴ ናቸው።

አገራችንም በሳምንቱ ባህሏንና የጥበበ ምርቶችዋን ታስተዋውቃለች። በቅርቡ የዓለምአቀፍ የጋዜጠኞች ቀን በአዲስ አበባ የተከበረ ሲሆን፣ ክቡር ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ዶ/ር አብይ ለሠላም ያደረጉትን አስተዋፅዖ ታሳቢ በማድረግ የUNESCO ዋናውን ሽልማት፣ የፌሊክስ ኡፍዌ ቧኚ ሽልማት፣ መሸለማቸው ይታወሳል።

የዚህ ዓመት የአፍሪካ ሳምንት ሠላም፣ ፈጠራ እና ዘላቂ ልማት በሚል ቃል ይከበራል።

L'association "Avec l'Ethiopie" se mobilise

Un bel exemple de l’amitié entre les peuples éthiopiens et français! L’association “Avec l’Ethiopie” créée à Angers en 2011 par des bénévoles français fait un travail remarquable en mobilisant les collectivités locales et les bonnes volontés. "Avec l'Ethiopie" se mobilise sur plusieurs projets :   

- L’eau et l’assainissement : construction 2 points d’eau d’eau permettant accès à 600 personnes à Debre Tabor; 10 points d’eau sur le Farta wereda pour 10 villages. Un programme en cours pour réaliser 6 points d’eau sur le Farta pour 5 villages qui bénéficiera à 400 personnes et une école rurale de 800 personnes
- Le football : soutien aux équipes masculine de 16-17 ans et féminine de 15-17 ans avec le fourniture d’équipements et de matériels.
- Promotion du tourisme : à Debre Tabor avec une immersion proposée dans la communauté au groupes touristiques à Angers et en envoyant 140 touristes depuis 2 ans.
Soutien à l’éducation : mobilisation de ressources pour une école rurale, permettre l’accès à l’eau, donner l’accès à l’électricité avec des panneaux solaires.
- Promotion de l’Ethiopie en France dans divers événements auprès de la population et les collectivités locales.

The association "Avec l'Ethiopie" is mobilizing

A beautiful example of people to people friendship between Ethiopia and France. The French association “Avec l’Ethiopie” created in Angers by French volunteers in 2011 are doing remarkable work by mobilizing local administrations in France.
1. Access to potable water: construction of two wells enabling access to 600 people in Debre Tabor; 10 wells in Farta wereda villages benefitting the local community. They are currently working on 10 wells in Farta wereda which will benefit 400 people and a rural school with 800 pupils.
2. Football: support to the young boys and girls football teams of the area by providing equipment and material.
3. Promotion of tourism in Debre Tabor with packages benefitting the local community. In 2 years, 140 French tourists have come thru their effort.
4. Support to education: availing drinking water and electricity thru solar panels
5. Promotion of Ethiopia in various fora in France.

H.E.M. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl expresses his warm gratitude to "Avec l'Ethiopie" and wishes to support these activities as a great example of people to people solidarity.

በተለይም፣
1 ፡ 600 ግለሰቦች የንፁህ ውሃ ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆኑ 12 ጉድጎዶች በመቆፈር፣
2 ፡ የአካባቢው የሴቶችና የወንዶች የወጣቶች የእግር ኳስ ቡድኖች ተገቢዉ ቁሳቁስ እንዲያገኙ፣
3 ፡ ማህበረሰቡን በሚጠቅም መልኩ በሁለት ዓመት ጊዜ ውስጥ ወደ ደብረ ታቦር 140 ቱሪስቶችን በማምጣት፣
4 ፡ የገጠር ትምህርት ቤት ንፁህ ውሃ እና የፀሐይን ሃይል በመጠቀም ኤሌክትሪክ የሚያመነጭ መሳሪያዎች በመትከል፣
5 ፡ በፈረንሳይ አገራችንን በተለያዩ መድረኮች በማስተዋወቅ።

ማህበሩ እያከናወነ ላለው ተግባር ከፍተኛ ምስጋና ይገባዋል። የፈረንሣይን እና የአገራችንን ሕዝቦች ወዳጅነት በሚያንፀባርቅ ሥራው ድጋፋችን ከጎኑ ነው።

Rencontre avec le Groupe d'Amitié

Réunion avec le groupe parlementaire d’amitié éthio-française à l‘Assemblée nationale en présence du représentant du Ministère des Affaires étrangères. Le Groupe est présidé par Madame la Députée Virginie Duby-Muller.

Nous avons échangé longuement autour des questions politiques et économiques qui concernent notre pays et la sous-région ainsi que le renouveau des relations entre l’Ethiopie et la France. Les avancées historiques en terme de démocratisation et de de droits de l’homme depuis un peu plus de un an ont été soulignées par les deux parties.

Les parlementaires en tant que représentant du peuple jouent un rôle essentiel à relayer et à plaidoyer en faveur des intérêts de notre pays et du renforcement des relations entre nos deux pays amis.

Meeting with the Friendship Group

Meeting with the Ethio-French parliamentary group at the French National Assembly together with the representative of the French Foreign Ministry. The parliamentary group is presided over by Honorable Virginie Duby-Muller.

We had detailed discussions regarding political and economic developments in Ethiopia and our sub-region as well as on the new impetus in Ethio-French relations. The historic progress seen in our country over the last year in terms of démocratisation and human rights were highlighted by both sides.

Parliamentarians as representatives of the people play a critical role in conveying and advocating in favor of our interests and the strengthening of relations between our two friendly countries.

በዛሬው ዕለት ከፈረንሳይ ፓርላማ የኢትዮጵያ የወዳጅነት ቡድን አባላት ጋር የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚንስቴር ተወካይ በተገኙበት ስብስብ ተደርጓል። የፓርላማውን ቡድን በሊቀመንበርነት የሚመሩት ክብርት ቪርጂኒ ዲዩቢ-ሚዩሌር ናቸው።

በስብሰባው ስለአገራችን ወቅታዊ የፖለቲካ እና የኢኮኖሚ ጉዳዮች እንዲሁም ስለአካባቢያችን ሁኔታ ሰፊ ውይይት የተካሄደ ሲሆን፣ በተለይም ከአንድ ዓመት ወዲህ በእገራችን በዲሞክራሲ ግንባታና በሰብዓዊ መብት ጥበቃ የሚታየው ታሪካዊና አውንታዊ ለውጥ በሁለቱም ወገኖች ተሰምሮበታል።

Hommage national aux Invalides

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a participé à la cérémonie d’hommage nationale aux Invalides où la France a rendu hommage à ses héros, Cédric de Pierrepont et Alain Bertoncello, deux commandos de marine tués en libérant des otages au Burkina Faso. Une cérémonie émouvante présidée par S.E. le Président Marcon.

L’Ethiopie est solidaire avec la France dans le combat sans relâche contre le terrorisme.

National tribute in the Invalides

H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl was present at the national ceremony organized at the Invalides where France paid a tribute to its two fallen heroes, Cedric de Pierrepont and Alain Bertoncello, French marine commandos killed while liberating two hostages in Burkina Faso. A very moving ceremony presided over by H.E. President Macron.

Ethiopia stands in solidarity with France in the unrelenting fight against terrorism.

Préservation et valorisation du Patrimoine Mondial Ethiopien

Réunion sur la préservation et la valorisation du site des Églises de Lalibela. Cette séance de travail était organisée sous l’égide de l’UNESCO avec les représentants et experts du gouvernement français ainsi que du Centre du Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO et avec la participation du International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) et de l'ICCROM.

Les Églises de Lalibela sont classées au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. Une équipe conjointe d’experts de l’Éthiopie et de la France avec la participation de la communauté locale fait un état des lieux et proposera des solutions conjointes pour la préservation et la mise en valeur du site que la France s’est engagées à soutenir financièrement et techniquement.

À la demande de la partie éthiopienne, le Secrétariat de l’UNESCO a débloqué une somme initiale d’assistance en urgence pour le Parc national des Monts du Simien, site classé au patrimoine mondial de l’humanité. Cette assistance est destinée au recrutement d’experts internationaux et locaux pour faire un état des lieux après les incendies et recommander les actions à mettre en œuvre pour la protection du parc. Nous remercions l’UNESCO pour ce soutien.

Conservation and promotion of the Ethiopian World Heritage

Meeting on the safeguard of the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela under the aegis of UNESCO with representatives and experts of France, UNESCO World Heritage Centre, International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and ICCROM

The Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela are registered as a world heritage site by UNESCO. A joint team of Ethiopian and French experts will evaluate the state of the site and elaborate with the participation of the local community solutions for the preservation of the site. France has committed to support technically and financially the preservation of the site.

Thank you to France and H.E. President Macron for their strong commitment!

Addressing a request from Ethiopia, UNESCO Secretariat has released initial emergency assistance budget for Simien Mountains National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. The initial assistance is meant for the hiring of international and local experts to assess the situation and make recommendations on future actions to protect the park by benchmarking best practices. We thank UNESCO for this support.

የፈረንሣይ መንግሥት በተለይም ክቡር ፕሬዚዳንት ማክሮን ለፕሮጀክቱ ቴክኒካዊና የፋይናንስ ድጋፍ ለመስጠት ለገቡት ቃል ታላቅ ምስጋና ይገባቸዋል።

በኢትዮጵያ ወገን በቀረበ ጥያቄ፣ የስሜን ተራሮች ጥበቃን በሚመለከት የUNESCO ፅ/ቤት የአደጋ ጊዜ ዕርዳታ አድርጓል። ይህ የመጀመሪያ ዕርዳታ ፓርኩ ላይ የደረሰውን አደጋ የሚያጠና እና ምርጥ የዓለምአቀፍ ተሞክሮዎችን መሠረት በማድረግ ሊወሰዱ ስለሚገቡ እርምጃዎች የመፍትሔ ሃሳቦችን የሚያቀርብ የአገራችን እና የዓለምአቀፍ ኤክስፐርቶችን ዪካተተ ቡድን ለመቀጥር የሚያስችል ነው። ለተደረገው ድጋፍ የUNESCOን ፅ/ቤት እናመሰግናለን።

Rencontre avec S.E. M. José Ángel Gurría, Secrétaire Général de l'OCDE

Au siège de l’Organisation de Coopération et de Développement Économiques (OCDE), S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré  S.E. M. José Ángel Gurría, le Secrétaire Général de cette organisation multilatérale.

Sur le plan bilatéral, l’OCDE apporte son soutien technique à l'Ethiopie, notamment dans les domaines de l’inclusion de la jeunesse, la protection sociale, les chaînes d’approvisionnement mondiales et l’éthique dans les affaires. 

Compte tenu de la très grande expertise technique de l’OCDE, le soutien technique de l’organisation a été sollicité pour le renforcement des capacités de nos institutions publiques et privées afin d'améliorer la gouvernance économique, la généralisation des bonnes pratiques sur la base des meilleurs standards internationaux, seul vecteur d’un développement durable. L’OCDE portera une attention particulière à cette requête.

Meeting with H.E. José Ángel Gurría, General Secretary of OECD

At the headquarters of the OECD, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl met with the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), H.E. Mr. José Ángel Gurría. They discussed bilateral and multilateral dossiers.

At the bilateral level, OECD is providing a technical support to Ethiopia in areas such as youth inclusion, social protection, business ethics and global supply chains. 

Considering the OECD’s excellent technical expertise, an advanced technical support was solicited to strengthening the technical capacity of our public and private institutions, critical pillars of our sustainable development endeavor. OECD will give due attention to our request.

Commémoration du 74ème anniversaire de la Victoire du 8 Mai 1945 à l'Arc de Triomphe

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a participé à la cérémonie du 74ème anniversaire de la Victoire du 8 mai 1945 à l’Arc de Triomphe à Paris. En présence de Son Exc. le Président Macro, un hommage a été rendu aux combattants morts pour leur patrie mais également à la paix bâtie en Europe à travers la construction européenne. Un exemple pour nous Africains de la nécessité de faire la paix et de la consolider à travers l’intégration.

Cette cérémonie a aussi l'occasion d'échanger le Premier Ministre Édouard Philippe, et de retrouver des collègues ambassadeurs, dont ceux de l’Erythrée, de Djibouti, du Soudan, du Sud Soudan, du Sénégal, de Guinée et du Rwanda.

Commemoration of the 74th birthday of the 8 May 1945 Victory at the Arc de Triomphe

Participation to the 74th anniversary ceremony of the Victory of 8 May 1945 at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Hommage in the presence of H.E. President Macron to the French soldiers who died for their country but also to the peace built in Europe after WWII thru the European integration project. It is an example for us Africans to make peace and consolidate it thru integration.

Brief discussions during the ceremony with H.E. Mr. Édouard Philippe, Prime Minister of France and pleasure to meet colleague ambassadors, excellencies from Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Senegal, Guinea and Rwanda.

በዛሬው እለት 74ኛው የሁለተኛው አለም ጦርነት ድል በዓል በፓሪስ፣ Arc de Triomphe፣ ተከብሮ ውሏል። በበዓሉ ወቅት በጦርነቱ ለሞቱ ሰማዕታት ዕውቅና የሚሰጥ ሥነ-ሥረዓት ክቡር ፕሬዚዳንት ማክሮን በተገኙበት የተካሄደ ሲሆን፣ ከጦርነቱ በኋላ እስከዛሬ ድረስ በአውሮፓ ምድር ሠላም እንዲዘልቅ አስተዋፅዖ ያደረገው የአውሮፓ ውህደት ነው።

ይህም ለእኛ አፍሪካውያን በአህጉራችን ሙሉ በሙሉ ሠላም እንዲኖር እና ውህደትን በማምጣት በዘላቂነት ሠላምን ማስፈን እንደሚቻል ምሳሌ ነው።

በበዓሉ ወቅት ከፈረንሳይ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር፣ ከክቡር አቶ ኤድዋር ፊሊፕ፣ ጋር አጭር ውይይት ተደርጓል። እንዲሁም በበዓሉ ሌሎች አምባሳደሮችን ለማግኘት በተለይም የኤርትራ፣ የጅቡቲ፣ የሱዳን፣ የደቡብ ሱዳን፣ የሴኔጋል፣ የጊኒ ኤና የሩዋንዳ አምባሳደሮች ጋር ለማወያየት ተችሏል።

Visite de la Foire de Paris

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a visité la Foire de Paris, qui se tient du 27 avril au 8 mai 2019 et qui est l’une des plus grandes manifestations de la ville de Paris avec plus de 500,000 visiteurs par an. Des produits, la culture, la cuisine et le savoir-faire venus du monde entier sont mis à l’honneur lors de cet évènnement.

Cette année le Restaurant Itegue Taitu, installé à Paris et tenu par Ato Amsal Negussie et Woizero Yolansa est l'Ambassadeur de l'Ethiopie. Sur son stand, des centaines de visiteurs ont pu goûter et apprécier notre cuisine et café, les meilleurs du monde.

Visit of the Paris Fair

H.E. Mr. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl visited the Paris Fair being organized between 27 April and 8 May 2019. It is one of the biggest events in Paris with over 500,000 visitors annually. The culture, products, dishes and know-how from all over the world are showcased.

This year the Ethiopian Restaurant in Paris Itegue Taitu of Ato Amsal Negussie and Woizero Yolansa was our Ambassador with a stand visited by hundreds of people who had the opportunity to taste and appreciate our dishes and coffee, the best in the world.

Congratulations and thank you to them for representing us in such a beautiful way!

Mme Audrey Azoulay, Directrice-Générale de l’UNESCO qui se trouve actuellement à Addis Abéba pour la Journée Mondiale de la Presse, vient d’annoncer que le Prix 2019 Félix Houphouët-Boigny a été attribué à S.E. le Premier Ministre Abiy Ahmed.

Cette haute distinction honore des personnes ou organisations qui ont contribué de manière significative à la promotion, à la recherche, à la sauvegarde ou au maintien de la paix. Par le passé, le Prix Félix Houphouët-Boigny a été remis à des personnalités comme de premier plan tels que Nelson Mandela et Frederik W. De Klerk, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Pérès et Yasser Arafat ou encore Jimmy Carter.

Ce Prix reconnait et récompense les efforts inlassables et la contribution significative de S.E. le Premier Ministre pour consolider le dialogue en Ethiopie et pour faire avancer la  paix dans la sous-région de la Corne de l'Afrique. UNESCO awards Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed with the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Prize

Mrs Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO who is in Addis Ababa for the World Press Freedom Day, has just announced that the 2019 UNESCO Félix Houphouët-Boigny Prize has been awarded to H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

The Prize honors individuals or organizations that have contributed in a significant way to the promotion, search and safeguard of peace. It is one of the most prestigious international awards with past recipients such as Nelson Mandela and Frederik W. De Klerk, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat or Jimmy Carter.

This award recognizes the tireless efforts and the significant contribution of H.E the Prime Minister for strenghtening dialogue in Ethiopia and advancing peace in the Horn of Africa Region. Congratulations to H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy for this well-deserved Prize!

H.E. Mr. Ambassador invited by RFI

H.E. Ambassador was invited for an interview with the English service of Radio France Internationale (RFI). A subsidiary of public group France Media Monde, RFI is one of the French radio stations with one of the largest audiences in France and more than 40 million regular users in the world. Following the interview, very productive meeting was held with the Executive Vice-President of RFI, Cécile Mégie, among other things, on the possibility of availing training to Ethiopian journalists.

Pâques Ethiopienne dans la solidarité

Dans le calendrier Orthodoxe Ethiopien, la Fête de Pâques (Fasika) tombe ce dimanche 28 avril. Pour les orthodoxes, Fasika est la fête la plus importante de l'année lithurgique. Elle intervient après des semaines de jeûne et de privation.

C’est donc un moment de partage. Dans cet esprit, l’ambassade a organisé à Porte La Chapelle une distribution de plats éthiopiens chauds et de vêtements à nos compatriotes en situation de difficulté à cause de leur statut. Cette initiative a été menée avec le soutien de deux associations et de huit restaurants éthiopiens à Paris.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl remercie les huit restaurants parisiens qui ont participé pour leur contribution dans la préparation des repas : Minilik, Godjo, Saveur d’Abyssinie, Ethiopia, Reine de Saba, Lucy, Ethio Saris et Habesha

L'Ambassadeur exprime également sa gratitude à deux associations: Ethiopia-France Association et Lema association pour le travail qu’ils ont abattu.

Ethiopian Easter with solidarity

Today, Sunday 28 April 2019, we celebrated Easter. It is the most important Orthodox holiday and comes after weeks of fasting.

It is, therefore, a moment of sharing. In this spirit, the Embassy organized in Porte La Chapelle, together with two charities and eight Ethiopian restaurants based in Paris, the serving of Ethiopian dishes and the distribution of clothes to our compatriots in difficult situation due to their legal status.

H.E. Ambassador Henok Referra Shawl wishes to thank eight Ethiopian restaurants in Paris: Minilik, Godjo, Saveur d’Abyssinie, Ethiopia, Reine de Saba, Lucy, Ethio Saris and Habesha for their contribution in preparing the food.

SE. Ambassador also expresses his gratitude and appreciation to Ethiopia France Association and Lema association, two non-profit organizations that achieved a hard work in organizing this gathering.

Thank you to all for their generosity and fraternity and for making it a truly blessed Easter.

L'Ambassade accueille le FORIM

Rencontre à notre ambassade avec M. Thierno Camara, President du FORIM, et Mme Gisèle Toaly, Chargée de Mission. Le FORIM est une plateforme nationale qui réunit plus de 700 associations des membres de la Diaspora. Elle aide les organisations de la Diaspora à mieux se structurer en leur apportant un soutien technique et financer pour qu’elles soient plus efficace dans leur rôle en France. Le FORIM accomagne aussi les membres de la Communauté Ethiopienne dans leurs contributions au développement de l'Ethiopie.

Le FORIM bénéfice de l’appui financier du gouvernement français. Nous travaillerons ensemble pour structurer et renforcer les organisations/associations de notre Diaspora afin qu’elles puissent mieux remplir leur rôle en France et contribuer au development de notre pays.

The Embassy welcomes FORIM

Meeting this Saturday 27 April 2019 at the Embassy with Mr. Thierno Camara, President of FORIM and Mrs Gisele Toaly, Project Head. FORIM is national platform regrouping over 700 organisations set up by members of various Diaspora in France and aims to support these organizations with technical and financial support so that Diaspora organizations can better fulfill their role in supporting the development of thejr country of origin.

FORIM gets financial support from the French government. We will work with them to structure and strengthen organizations of our Diaspora so that they are better able to contribute to the development of our country.

Hommage à M. Ato Guefaw Wossen

C'est un grand honneur de rencontrer et d'échanger avec Mr. Ato Guefaw Wossen, 96 ans, et ancien employé de l’Ambassade à Paris pendant 60 ans entre 1952 et 2012.

Une vraie source d’inspiration! Toujours solide physiquement et alerte, il se rappelle de tous les événements majeurs qui ont jalonné l’Histoire de notre pays et notre Ambassade. Il mérite d’être reconnu et honoré pour son patriotisme, son service et son dévouement à notre pays et notre Ambassade. Nous organiserons une cérémonie spéciale pour l’honorer.

Tribute to Mr. Ato Guefaw Wossen

This is a great honor to meet and discuss with Ato Guefaw Wossen. Aged 96, he worked as an employee  at our Embassy in Paris for 60 years between 1952 and 2012.

Mr. Gossen is an inspiration! Still fit solid and very much alert, he can recall all the major landmark events of the History of our country and our Embassy. He deserves to be recognized and honored for his patriotism, his service and his devotion to our country. We will organize a special event to honor him and his service.

Rencontre avec la nouvelle agence de la Diaspora

C'est à Francfort en Allemagne que la nouvelle Agence de la Diaspora a organisé la réunion des Ambassadeurs en poste en Europe. A cette occasion, S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré la direction de cette nouvelle Agence qui a fait un briefing détaillé sur la stratégie, le plan et les structures de l’Agence.

L'Ambassadeur a été très impressionné par la compétence et l’engagement de l’équipe, en particulier de sa dynamique et jeune Directrice-générale, Madame Selamawit Dawit.

Il ne fait aucun doute que la participation et le soutien de la Diaspora dans le dévelopement et la transformation de l'Ethiopie seront considérablement améliorés!

Meeting with the new Diaspora Agency

On 24 and 25 April in Frankfurt, Germany for a meeting with the management team of the new Ethiopian Diaspora Agency, which is giving detailed briefing to Embassies in Europe on the strategy, plans and structures of the new Agency.

Very impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the team and in particular it’s young and dynamic Director-General, Mrs Selamawit Dawit.

The support and engagement of the Diaspora in our beloved country’s development will be considerably scaled up.

Un bel exemple de coopération culturelle nord-sud

En marge du Comité Exécutif de l'UNESCO, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré S.E. M. Gabor Soos, Secrétaire-général de la Commission nationale de l’Unesco de la Hongrie. Dans les années 60, suite à la visite en Hongrie de Sa Majesté Impériale, l’Empereur Haïlé Sélassié I, une équipe hongroise s’est rendue dans toutes les régions de l’Ethiopie pour enregistrer des milliers de chansons et musiques folkloriques. Ces précieux enregistrements ont été perdus en Éthiopie mais la Hongrie a conservé des copies. Une cérémonie de restitution sera  organisée à Addis Abeba mi-juin 2019, en présence du Ministre Hongrois de la Culture. Voici un exemple de coopération culturelle nord-sud !

A nice example of North-South cultural cooperation

On the sidelines of UNESCO’s Executive Board, H.E. Henok Teferra Shawl met H.E. Mr. Gabor Soos, Secretary General of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO. In the 1960s following the visit of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie I to Hungry, a team of Hungarian experts came to Ethiopia to record all the folklore music of our country. These precious recordings of thousands of songs were lost in Ethiopia. Hungary has kept copies and will hand them over during ceremony to be organized in Addis Ababa mid-June 2019, in the presence of the Hungarian Minister of Culture. This is a nice example of North-South cultural cooperation!

A Nice, rencontres dédiées aux hautes technologies, à la coopération en matière de recherche et à la solidarité. 

Dans la ville de Nice, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré des élus et des membres de la haute administration locale, tous engagés dans des activités en partenariat avec l’Ethiopie.  

La visite a commencé par un entretien avec M. Lionel Luca, Maire de Villeneuve-Loubet et vice-Président de la Communauté Urbaine Sophia-Antipolis. Sophia-Antipolis est un hub technologique européen de premier plan qui accueille des entreprises, des centres de recherches, des laboratoires et des start-ups. La discussion a mis en avant l’opportunité d’organiser des activités BtoB dans la perspective de futurs partenariats technologiques.

S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur a terminé sa visite par une discussion sur les questions relatives à la recherche paléontologique et archéologique. Avec des membres de la Faculté, il a avancé les possibilités de développer la coopération, le partage du savoir et les échanges de chercheurs entre l’Université de Nice et les institutions éthiopiennes.  

A Nice, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Tefferra Shawk a rencontré les membres de la Diaspora locale pour parler des transformations en cours en Ethiopie. La discussion a mis en évidence l’intérêt pour développer des mécanismes permettant aux membres de la Communauté Ethiopienne de travailler ensemble pour relever leurs défis communs.

S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur a assuré les Ethiopiens et les Amis de l’Ethiopie que l’Ambassade est prête à travailler avec eux et à les accompagner sur les sujets concernant les Ethiopiens en France.

La Communauté Ethiopienne de Nice a apprécié l’engagement de l’Ambassade, confirmant son intérêt pour développer des activités en coopération. La réunion a été un succès.

Enfin, cette visite a été l'occasion de rencontrer des bénévoles qui assistent les Ethiopiens en situation précaire. Parmi eux, Me Munir Abderhamane est un avocat qui leur apporte un accompagnement juridique et Mme Martha organise des repas solidaires. La discussion a exploré les futures actions destinées à mieux mobiliser la Communauté Ethiopienne.

In Nice, meetings dedicated to high-tech, research cooperation and solidarity.

In the Southeast seaside city of Nice, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met local elected and administration officials, all of them engaged in activities in partnership with Ethiopia.

The visit began with Mr. Lionel Luca, Mayor of Villeneuve-Loubet and Vice-President of the Sophia-Antipolis Urban Community. Sophia-Antipolis is a first grade European high-tech hub with companies, research centers and start-ups. The discussion highlighted the opportunities to organize BtoB activities in the perspective of future technology partnerships.

H.E. Ambassador completed his visit with a discussion on archeology and paleontology researches. With faculty members of the Universality, he advanced the possibilities to develop cooperation, knowledge and studies between Nice University and Ethiopian Institutions.

In Nice, H.E Ambassador Henok Teferra met local Ethiopian Community to talk about the ongoing developments in Ethiopia. The discussion also highlighted the interest for mechanisms enabling members of the Community to work together to address the challenges of the Ethiopian Community.

H.E Ambassador Henok assured the Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia that the Embassy is ready to work together and assist them on matters pertaining Ethiopians in France. The Ethiopian community in Nice praised the engagement of the Embassy, confirming the interest to develop cooperation activities. The meeting was successful.

The visit in Nice was also the opportunity to meet local volunteers who provide support to Ethiopian in vulnerable situation. Among them are Mr. Munir Abderhamane, a lawyer who provides legal support and Mrs Martha who organizes meals. The discussion explored future common actions to better mobilize the Ethiopian Community in France.

A Lyon, rencontres avec Gérard Collomb et Alain Mérieux

A Lyon, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré des personnalités de premier plan, responsable politiques et officiels de la haute administration qui sont engagés dans des actions en partenariat avec l’Ethiopie.

La visite a commencé par un entretien avec M. Gérard Collomb, Maire de la Ville de Lyon. La discussion a porté sur le soutien de la Ville de Lyon au Projet Sheger, un plan d’amménagement urbain et d'embellissement de la ville d’Addis Abeba. M. le Maire s’est engagé à apporter un appui technique. Lyon possède une vraie compétence et savoir-faire dans le domaine de l’urbanisme acueillant, avec ses nombreux espaces verts, sa valorisation des deux fleuves et la promotion d'une qualité de vie reconnue.

Centre politique économique, culturel et social de premier plan en Europe, Lyon a un partenariat de jumelage avec Addis Abeba depuis 20 ans. Nous remercions M.  Shoki Ali, membre de la Communauté Ethiopienne et M. François Theolyere, Consul Honoraire qui ont organisé cette réunion.

La visite s’est poursuivie avec un entretien avec M. Alain Mérieux, Président de la Fondation de l’Institut Mérieux qui œuvre dans le domaine de la santé. La discussion a permis de promouvoir l’essor du secteur pharmaceutique et médical en Ethiopie.

Meetings with Gerard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon and Alain Merieux, Chairman of the Merieux Foundation

In Lyon, S.E.M. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl a met top officials engaged in partnership activities with Ethiopia.

The visit began by a meeting with Mr. Gerard Collomb, Mayor of Lyon. The talk focused on the support of the City of Lyon to the Sheger Project aiming at improving the urban environment of Addis Ababa. The Mayor committed to provide technical support to the project. Lyon has a real competence and expertise in urban beautification, with many green urban spaces, the management of its two rivers and the promotion of a convivial urban life style.

A political, economic, cultural and social center in Europe, Lyon has developed a twinning partnership with Addis Ababa for the last 20 years.

Thank you to Mr. Shoki Ali, member of the Ethiopian Community and our Ambassador in the city, and to Mr. François Theolyere, Honorary Consul, for arranging this meeting.

In Lyon, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl also met Mr. Alain Merieux, Chairman of the Merieux Institute Foundation that specializes in Health activities. The discussion was an opportunity to promote the development of the pharmaceutical and medicine sector in Ethiopia.

Rencontre avec la Communauté Ethiopienne à Lyon

Les membres de la Communauté Ethiopienne et les amis de l’Éthiopie résidant dans la région lyonnaise sont venus rencontrer S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl au Restaurant Messob, le samedi 13 avril 2019.

Chacun s'est senti réconforté en retrouvant les membres notre communauté de différents âges et dans toute leur diversité et en si grand nombre. Laissant leurs particularismes respectifs de côté et unis dans un objectif commun, les Ethiopiens de la Diaspora sont déterminés à  s’entraider. C'est particulièrement nécessaire pour les étudiants Ethiopiens qui sont nombreux à Lyon et pour nos jeunes en difficulté en raison de leur statut juridique. Ensemble, les membres de la Communauté Ethiopienne en France vont conjuguer leurs efforts pour aider notre pays.

Merci à Madame Sophie, notre ambassadrice à Lyon pour avoir accueilli notre réunion dans son très beau restaurant décoré aux couleurs de notre grand pays. Cette rencontre n'est qu'un début. Il y en aura d'autres.

Meeting with the Ethiopian Community in Lyon

Big thank you to the Ethiopian community and friends of Ethiopia in the Lyon region, the 2nd largest city in France, for showing up in such big numbers to our first meeting at Messob Restaurant on Saturday 13 April 2019.

It gives solace to the heart to see and interact with my compatriots of different ages and in all their diversity. This is just the beginning! One takeaway: leaving aside our differences, we agreed to combine our efforts to help one another and in particular our many young students in Lyon and our young compatriots in difficulty due to their legal status.

Thank you to Mrs Sophie, our Ambassador in Lyon, for hosting us in her beautiful restaurant decorated with artwork from our great country.

L'Ethiopie invite l'Erythrée

Dans un esprit d’amitié “Medemer”, S.EM. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a invité S.E. Mme Hanna Simon, Ambassadeur Extraordinaire et plénipotentiaire de l'Etat d'Erythrée en France, accompagnée des diplomates et du staff de son Ambassade à partager la traditionnelle cérémonie du café. Les deux parties sont convenues de travailler ensemble sur les questions bilatérales et multilatérales d’intérêt commun. Un évènement similaire sera bientôt organisé dans les locaux de la Mission de l'Erythrée à Paris. Medemer (መደመር) signifie en plus avec l'idée de cohésion et de mouvement vers un objectif commun.

With a “Medemer” friendship spirit, H.E. Mr. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl has invited  H.E. Mrs. Hanna Simon, Ambassador of Eritrea in France, with the diplomats and staff of her Embassy for a traditional coffee ceremony. The two sides agreed to work together both at the bilateral and multi-lateral areas of mutual interest.  A similar socializing event will soon be organized at the premises of the Paris Mission of the State of Eritrea. Medemer (መደመር) means more and the idea of getting together and moving forward with a common objective.

The Ambassador hosts the Deputy Director General of UNESCO

and Permanent Delegates to UNESCO

A reception was organized at our Embassy for Ambassadors, Permanent Delegates of Member States to UNESCO and High Officials of the organization in the presence of S.E. Dr. Tilaye Gete Ambay, Ethiopia Minister of Education who delivered the keynote speech. H.E. Mr. Xing Qu, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO honored us with his presence.

As A member of UNESCO’s Executive Board, Ethiopia is committed to supporting the success of this organization. In particular, Ethiopia makes sure that all countries  can benefit from the technical support and the expertise of the organization in the fields of education, science and culture.

In his welcome address, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl highlighted the in-depth political transformation in Ethiopia and the wind of hope blowing in our region after the peace between agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Passation officielle de l'organisation de la Journée Mondiale de la Liberté de la Presse

La cérémonie officielle de passation de l’organisation de la Journée Mondiale de la Liberté de la Presse s'est tenue à l’UNESCO en marge de la 206ème séance plénière du Conseil Exécutif.  Mme Oheneba Dokua Asiamah-Agyei, Vice-Ministre du Ghana de la Communication et de l’Information, pays organisateur de la Journée Mondiale en 2018, nous a transmis le flambeau. La Journée Mondiale de la Presse aura lieu à Addis Abeba du 1 au 3 mai 2019.

La cérémonie de passation s’est déroulée en présence du Ministre Ethiopien de l’Éducation, S.E. Dr. Tilaye, de Mme Oheneba Dokua Asiamah-Agyei, Vice-Ministre de la Communication et de l'Information du Ghana, de S.E. Mme la Déléguée Permanente du Ghana, et du Directeur-Général Adjoint de l’UNESCO. Etaient aussi présents les Délégués Permanents et représentants des États membres, des employées de l’UNESCO et les journalistes. Une cérémonie traditionnelle du café éthiopien a accompagné cette rencontre.

La Journée Mondiale de la Liberté de la Presse accueillera plus de mille participants, des journalistes, artistes et personnalités qui viendront du monde entier. C’est un immense honneur pour notre pays d’accueillir cet événement de l’UNESCO en collaboration avec l'Union Africaine. Le choix de l'Ethiopie témoigne de la confiance de la communauté internationale dans le processus de démocratisation en profondeur de notre pays initiée par S.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed et qui prend racine.

9 April 2019 - Ceremony

Official handover of the organization for the World Press Freedom Day

The ceremony of the official handover of the organization of the World Press Freedom Day was held on the sidelines of the 206th plenary session of the Executive Board of UNESCO. Mrs Oheneba Dokua Asiamah-Agyei, Deputy Minister of Ghana of Communication and Information, who organized last year’s event, passed on the baton to our country. The World Press Freedom Day will be organized in Addis Ababa next 1-3 May 2019.

The handover ceremony was held in the presence of our Minister of Education, H.E. Dr. Tilaye, Mrs. Oheneba Dokua Asiamah- Agye, Deputy Minister of Ghana for Communication and Information, H.E. Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Ghana, the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO. Permanent Delegates and Representatives of Member States, officials and staff of UNESCO, and journalists were also present. This meeting was celebrated with a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony.

During the World Press Freedom Day, over one thousand journalists and artists from all over the world are expected in Addis Ababa. It is an immense honour for our country to host this UNESCO event in collaboration with the African Union. The choice of Ethiopia highlights the confidence of the international community towards the leadership of H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed who has initiated an in-depth democratic transformation that is currently taking root in our country.

25ème Commémoration du Génocide des Tutsi au Rwanda

La 25ème Commémoration du Génocide contre les Tutsi du Rwanda a été organisée au Parc de Choisy à Paris sous le haut patronage de S.E.M. Jacques Kabale, Ambassadeur du Rwanda en France.  M. Bruno Le Maire, Ministre français de l’Économie et des Finances, Mme Anne Hidalgo, Maire de la Ville de Paris étaient présents. Les survivants de génocide, pleins de dignité étaient accompagnés de nombreux membres de la Communauté Rwandaise et amis du Rwanda. 25th Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda

The 25th Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda was organized in the Parc de Choisy of Paris under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Jacques Kabale, Ambassador of Rwanda in France. Mr. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Mrs. Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris were present. Always dignified, survivors of the genocide were supported by members of the Rwandan Community and friends of Rwanda. This ceremony highlights the obligation to always remember so that such tragedy never happens again in our continent and elsewhere.

Visite de M. Amde Akalework, Président de l’Alliance éthio-française

Moments d’émotion à l’Ambassade - S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl reçoit M. Amde Akalework, Président de l’Alliance éthio-française à Addis Abéba. M. Amde oeuvre depuis des décennies pour le rapprochement entre l’Ethiopie et la France. Il encourage le dialogue culturel à travers notamment l’enseignement du français en Éthiopie et la promotion des œuvres artistiques éthiopiennes.

M. Amde a vécu dans l’enceinte de notre ambassade pendant deux ans et demi en 1958 lorsque son père, M. Akalework, fut un grand Ambassadeur de l’Ethiopie en France sous le régime impérial.

Moments of Emotion at the Embassy - H.E. Mr. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl hosts Mr. Amde Akalework, President of the French-Ethiopian Alliance in Addis Ababa. Mr. Amde has been working for decades for the rapprochement between Ethiopia and France. He promotes cultural dialogue, including the teaching of French in Ethiopia and the promotion of Ethiopian artistic works.

Mr. Amde lived in our embassy for two and a half years in 1958 when his father, Mr. Akalework, was a great Ambassador of Ethiopia in France during the imperial regime.

Préparation d'une visite de délégation avec le MEDEF International

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré M. Philippe Gautier, Directeur-Général du MEDEF International. L'Ambassade et le MEDEF International vont travailler ensemble pour envoyer en Éthiopie du 16 au 21 septembre 2019 une délégation de 30 à 40 des plus grandes entreprises françaises. Actives dans les secteurs de l'agriculture, de l'agro-alimentaire et de la transformation, elles vont effectuer une visite d’exploration en vue d’investir. La France a un savoir-faire et une compétence reconnue dans ces filières qui connaissent une transformation rapide en Ethiopie.

Preparing a delegation visit with MEDEF International

H.E. Mr. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl met Mr. Philippe Gautier, CEO of MEDEF International, the largest employer federation in France representing the biggest French companies. Together, they will prepare the visit in Ethiopia of a business delegation from 16 to 21 September 2019. Some 30 to 40 large French companies plan to explore the agriculture and agro-processing sectors for future investments. France has knowledge, competences and resources in these sectors and Ethiopia can greatly benefit from this capacities.

Rencontre à l’INALCO sur le thème

“Ethiopie : printemps ou ለውጥ "? Un an après"

A l’occasion de la première année de S.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed au poste de Premier Ministre, l’Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INALCO), a consacré une journée d’étude aux réformes en cours en Ethiopie.

S.E. Mme Hanna Simon, Ambassadrice d’Erythrée et S.E.M. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, Ambassadeur de Djibouti nous ont honorés de leur présence. Des diplomates, des chercheurs et des étudiants français et de la Corne de l’Afrique étaient présents.

La démocratisation en marche dans notre pays, les réformes économiques et la paix retrouvée dans notre sous-région, notamment avec l’accord de paix signé entre l’Ethiopie et l’Erythrée, ont été mises en lumière. Le vent d’optimisme qui souffle en Ethiopie s’étend à l’ensemble de la région grâce aux initiatives du Premier Ministre Abiy Ahmed.

L’Ambassade remercie le Professeur Peter Stockinger, vice-Président du conseil scientifique de l'INALCO et Mme Bezunesh Tamru Professeur de l’Université Paris VIII, pour cette belle journée dédiée à notre pays, à ses réformes en profondeur, à sa culture et à son rôle dans la Corne de l'Afrique.

“Ethiopia: Spring or ለውጥ "? One year later"

To celebrate the first year anniversary of the coming to power of Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, INALCO, the National Institut for Oriental Languages et Civilizations in Paris (INALCO), held a daylong conference dedicated to the reforms in Ethiopia

H.E. Mrs. Hanna Simon, Ambassador of Eritrea and H.E. Mr. Ayeid Mousseid Yahya, Ambassador of Djibouti graced this conference with their presence. Diplomats, researchers and students from France and the Horn of Africa Region also attended the discussion.

The in-depth and sweeping democratization process and economic reforms in Ethiopia as well as the newfound peace in the Horn of Africa Region with the signing of the peace agreement with Eritrea were highlighted. The wind of hope blowing in Ethiopia is spreading over the region, thanks to the initiatives of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The Embassy expresses gratitude to Pr. Peter Stockiger, vice-President of the Scientific council of INALCO, and to Mrs. Professor Bezunesh Tamru from University of Paris VIII, for this great event dedicated to Ethiopia, its sweeping reforms, culture and role in the Horn of Africa Region.

Lettres de Créances à l'UNESCO

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur Henok Tefera Shawl a présenté ses lettres de créance, en tant que Délégué Permanent de l'Éthiopie auprès de l'UNESCO à Madame Audrey Azoulay, Directrice Générale de l'UNESCO, le lundi 1er avril 2019. A cette occasion, il a affirmé la volonté de l'Éthiopie de renforcer sa coopération avec l'UNESCO dans tous ses domaines de compétence, notamment dans les domaines de l'éducation et de la culture. S.E.M. L’Ambassadeur a ajouté que son gouvernement était heureux d'organiser la Journée Mondiale de la Liberté de la Presse, qui marque le processus de démocratisation en cours en Éthiopie.

La Délégation Permanente de l'Ethiopie travaillera avec le Secrétariat et les autres États-membres pour le rayonnement et le succès de l’UNESCO.

Letters of Credence to UNESCO

H.E. Mr. Ambassador Henok Tefera Shawl presented his credentials as the Permanent Delegate of Ethiopia to UNESCO to Mrs Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO's Director General on Monday 1st April 2019, affirming Ethiopia's willingness to strengthen its cooperation with UNESCO in all its field of competencies especially in Education and Culture. He further expressed that it is a pleasure to his government to host World Press Freedom Day which marks Ethiopia's reform in the democratization process.

The Permanent Delegation of Ethiopia will work to be part of the success of UNESCO, together with the Secretariat and Member States.

Dégustation de café à l'Ambassade

Le café à l’honneur - Plus de 40 entreprises françaises ont participé à la cérémonie de dégustation du meilleur café au monde, le café éthiopien, organisée par VERLET, un torréfacteur de renom basé en France, en collaboration avec notre ambassade. C’est le premier événement organisé dans notre centre culturel situé dans l’enceinte de l'ambassade et la meilleure façon de commencer c'est avec le CAFÉ, don de l'Ethiopie à l’humanité.

Cette rencontre a été organisée par l’Ambassade en partenariat avec Mme Marta Somorowski et M. Eric Duchossoy, Directeur de la Maison Verlet, torréfacteur depuis 1880.

Mme Barbara Bessot Ballat, Vice-Présidente du Groupe d’amitié Éthiopie-France à l'Assemblée Nationale, nous a honoré de sa présence. Outre les entreprises françaises, deux exportateurs éthiopiens, Yalon trading et Yitbarek Tilahun de l’Association des exportateurs de café éthiopien ont participé à la cérémonie. Deux propriétaires de restaurants éthiopiens basés à Paris, Woizero Hanna du restaurant Entoto et Ato Sisay du restaurant Negus étaient aussi présents.

Dans son introduction, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl souligné que l’Ethiopie, pays d’origine du café, produit une grande variété d’arabica de qualité à l'arôme exclusif. La filière café se transforme et se modernise pour optimiser la valeur du produit. Eric Duchossoy a présenté l’activité de la Maison Verlet et les résultats de ses recherches menées en Ethiopie. L’ensemble des participants ont ensuite partagé leurs expériences et poursuivis leurs échanges autour d’un impressionnant assortiment de café éthiopien.

Coffee cupping ceremony at the Embassy

Coffee honoured and promoted - More than 40 French companies attended the coffee cupping ceremony for the best coffee in the world, Ethiopian coffee. This ceremony was organized in partnership between the Embassy and Maison Verlet, a renowned coffee roaster based in France. It was the first event at the cultural center of the Embassy and there is no better way to start than with coffee, our gift to the world, COFFEE.

Mrs Barbara Bessot Ballat, MP and Vice-President of the Ethio-French Friendship Group of the National Assembly joined us for the event. Along with French companies, Yalon trading and Yitbarek Tilahun, Ethiopian exporters from the Ethiopian Coffee Exporters Association attended the coffee cupping ceremony. Owners of Ethiopian restaurants in Paris, Ato Sisay from Negus Restaurant and Woizero Hanna from Entoto Restaurant were also présent.

In his introductory remarks, H.E. Ambassador Henok Teferra Shawl  has hilighted that Ethiopia, the orgine country of coffee, produces great varieties of quality arabica with exclisive aromas. The coffee sector is transforming and modernizing to optimize the value of the production. Eric Duchossoy presented the activity of Maison Verlet and the outcomes of his researches in Ethiopia. All the assembly shared coffee experiences and developed further around an impressing selection of Ethiopian coffees.

L'Ambassadeur rencontre la Communauté Ethiopienne

S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a rencontré la Diaspora Ethiopienne de France et des pays de la juridiction de l’Ambassade. Venus nombreux, les Ethiopiens, les personnes d’origine éthiopienne et les amis de l’Ethiopie se sont venus faire connaissance avec le nouvel Ambassadeur.

Au cours de son allocution de bienvenue, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur Henok Teferra Shawl a souligné l’importance du changement initié par le Premier Ministre Abiy Ahmed. Sa volonté de faire progresser la Démocratie a été concrétisée par la libération des prisonniers politiques et de journalistes, l’ouverture de l’espace politique et un effort permanent pour développer le dialogue. Par ailleurs, le Premier Ministre Abiy Ahmed et son gouvernement travaillent sans relâche pour redresser les déséquilibres macroéconomiques.

Concernant les relations bilatérales, S.E.M l’Ambassadeur a insisté sur le nouvel élan créé par la récente visite du Président Emmanuel Macron en Ethiopie. Il a développé les domaines de convergence et les avancées de la coopération, mentionnant notamment la préservation du patrimoine culturel, les transferts de technologies, les investissements et les échanges en matière de culture et d’éducation. Applaudissant ces perspectives très positives, l’assistance a exprimé son intérêt pour des relations bilatérales étroites, confiantes et mutuellement bénéfiques.

S.E.M. l'Ambassadeur a précisé que  le quatrième étage de notre ambassade deviendra un centre culturel ouvert aux jeunes artistes Ethiopiens qui pourront exposer leurs œuvres d’art, à la communauté éthiopienne qui pourra organiser des cours de français et des événements qui feront la promotion de notre pays.

Enfin, S.E.M. l’Ambassadeur a assuré la Diaspora de la disponibilité de l’ensemble de l’équipe de l’Ambassade pour accompagner leurs démarches et leurs contributions au développement de l’Ethiopie. A l’issue de cette rencontre conviviale, beaucoup d'invités ont souligné que de mémoire, l’Ambassade n’avait jamais accueilli un aussi grand nombre d’Ethiopiens.
